So I have a friend whom I play the aobr box with. He is Muslim. He feels it is a conflict of interest with his religion to take the game any further. Do we have any Muslims that play wh40k? Sorry I didn't know where to put this question.

I don't know much about Muslim, but I can't see how 40k is against his religion...
not really an answer, I know, but I am intrigued.

He feels all the elements of chaos are embodiments of the shaitan. He doesn't want any part in it.

You can't force him. If he feels that way, then that's that. Surely you can play with other people?

Of course. But he is never happy. Then when he played 40k , he was so happy. Then the imam told him it was evil.

It is no more offensive to a Muslim as it would be to a Christian or Jew.
To fundamentalists of many faiths, Demons and chaos would be seen as products of the devil.
If he feels stronly that it is in conflict with his faith he shouldn't play the game.
Its really that simple sadly.

He can always play grey knights and be the champions against evil. That'd fit in I think. Just say away from chaos armies/orks/xenos me thinks.

Do not take offence, but couldn't your friend play the space marine half of AOBR and then crush the chaos and xenos scum in the name of Ala (probably spelled wrong, sorry)? Then he could be happy playing the game and feel good about desrtoying the evil-doers at the same time.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

I daresay your friends exposure to those chaos/elements even by playing the game is where the conflict occurs regardless of whether he/she was playing for or against Chaos) . Playing GK or SM would still be exposing them to those elements they deem are embodiments of Shaitan. It'd be like a hardcore satanist going to church to hang out with a friend, sure they get to hang with their friend - but they're in a church, which would suck for them:(
poor analogy perhaps

I think that you have to remember that 40k is a fictional game. If you take it as such then how can something that you acknowledge to be made up clash with your beliefs. However, I'm not too familiar with Islam, so it may well clash. I don't know.

That's a real bummer. Reminds me of way back when people thought D&D was only one step away from outright devil worship.

There isn't any Chaos in the AoBR box so I don't see what the problem is.
Just don't play chaos, or don't play the game.
Its a fictional game. There is nothing evil about it. If he feels that way about it, his loss.
