Hey, I've never been to a GW tournament day before but I was wondering if you would be allowed to use Basilisks as medusa's or plasma guns as melta guns? Not quite sure what the rules are on that?

Cheers

GW 'official' tournaments no longer exist.

Contact the person running the tournament

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

He is in the UK.

The answer is you have to use GW models unless they do not make a model for it.

Generally speaking proxies do not fly in larger or more formal events. "Counts-as" is generally the closest thing, where an out of print model might be used to represent a currently-legal unit. Like one of my opponents at Adepticon last year who used several squat models within his Grey Knights army, representing different henchmen or characters.

Adepticon 2015: Team Tourney Best Imperial Team- Team Ironguts, Adepticon 2014: Team Tourney 6th/120, Best Imperial Team- Cold Steel Mercs 2, 40k Championship Qualifier ~25/226

So, say I have a basilisk (which is an official product), could I use it as a Medusa as it is just the same tank with a different muzzle which GW haven't made yet, only forgeworld supplies it?

Not at most tournaments. None of ours would allow you to do that nor 'the plasma is the melta'. You have to make some kind of effort to visually distinguish it - 'I can't afford what I actually want' or 'I can't be bothered' aren't acceptable excuses really.

Unfortunatly this is one of the times GW see FW as the same company. They view that a model has been made. FW models are official, but there rules are not. In the same way you could use a Krige guard force in any GW event but not be able to use the FW rules.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Scratchbuilds are acceptable, so longer as they have a % of GW miniature included are properly based and are otherwise made of scrap.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
