I finally broke down and took vulkan for my list, the Twin-linked rule too good. I tweaked my list around a bit, but so far this is what I have: HQ: Vulkan-190pts Elite 1: dreadnaught ( MM, DCCW)-105pts Elite 2: Tactical Terminators (6-man, chainfist, assault cannon/cyclone)280pts Troop1: Tactical squad (10 man, combi-flamer, meltagun, rocket launcher, rhino)-220pts Troop 2: Tactical squad (10 man, melta gun, combi-flamer, rhino)-220pts Troop 3 Tactical squad (5 man, Razorback)-165pts F/A 1: HF/ MM speeder-70pts F/A 2: MM attack bike-50pts total: 1,300pts Tried it out today, got curb stomped by chaos (the guy tabled me and other person in turn 2 ) Here is the (new) tactics I'm running with them (in a perfect game): F/A 2 flat out towards the enemy, possibly drawing fire from some heavies to stop it, while F/A 1 goes 12" along with vulkan and all of troop2 in a rhino, provideing support for them while the dreadnaught and a troop 1 combat squad w/ vulkan try to take the flank. the rocket launcher combat squad of troop 1 sits in back with the razorback, "pew pew"ing away at heavies/daemons/scary things I want dead. and the tactical terminators either sit back with a cyclone missle launcher or deepstrike in with an assault cannon. Good Ideas? bad ideas? Edit: sorry for title mix up, long, long day

Hi a few pointers that I personally would apply to the list
HQ - Can't argue with that
Elites - Give the dreadnought a drop pod to get it in on turn one to definitely wreak some havoc before dying. Swap the terminators for assault terminators with 4 thunder hammers and 3 lightning claws to capitalise on Vulkans master crafting. Ideally you would pop these in a Land Raider Redeemer with Vulkan for a real beastly unit.
Troops - Tactical squads are good, would have the last one in a rhino not a razorback so the squad can enter, helps with objectives etc.
Fast Attack - Attack bike should be in a squad of 3....2 at the very least or its too easily killed. The same can be said for the Land Speeder really
Use your bikes to break open transports and your speeders to kill whatever drops out, Vulkan and his team can head for the biggest threat on the table while the tactical squads capture any objectives using the rhinos to dart around....remember to pop smoke on turn 1 and hug cover with them to increase there survival.
The changes I've suggested should bring you to 1.500ish points which if you add the Land Raider Redeemer will bring you to a nice 1.750 list that should preform well...but remember its down to more than the list

Okay, sounds pretty good. I plan on making some landspeeder HF/MM things and I do plan on getting sternguard soon, maybe to replace my terminators, as I want a fluffy sternguard unit for vulkan.
Here is the unit:
7 Sternguard vets w/ 5 combi guns, one meltagun and one heavy flamer, lightning claw Rhino-250pts
and maybe I could take a thunderfire cannon too.

The third tac squad should be combi-melta, melta, multi-melta.
I am also not a fan of mixing flamer and melta. Maybe it works for you but I always want specialized squads.
You need faster multi-melta. This is typically in the form of more MM attack bike and MM landspeeder.
Given that THSS Assault Terminators are the best close combat SM has, Vulkan makes them all mastercrafted for that much more punching power. I would say take as many as you can and fit them in a Land Raider Crusader or Redeemer.

Sternguard is a nice unit. Problem with Vulkan lists at low points levels is he doesn't quite earn his points back. You really need to play him at 1,750+ to get enough units in there that benefit from his special rule. At 1,300 points you'd be better off with say a basic librarian and spends the points elsewhere.

Sternguard are my favourite unit in the codex and really are awesome when used correctly
max them out with combi meltas, but I'd drop the h.flamer and the meltagun as its always good to make use of their ammunition. They are the ultimate infantry killer.
Arm the sgt. with melta bombs and you've got anti tank for when your combi meltas are all used up.
Thunderfire cannons can be useful but are easily killed....if you're taking them its best to take two

I agree with dropping the HF and meltagun. I would also drop the the LC. Don't be fooled by the two attacks in their profile, sternguard are a shooting unit through and through!

yea I also really like the sternguard as an all around killing machine, but they might die easily. The reason why I took the Meltagun is because with vulkan it's almost a guarantied kill against most units and adds some insurance incase I whiff with the other 5 twin linked melta shots. (it happens) so I can still bust tanks and things with it. I got the heavy flamer so I can add to the fire power of my sternguard, giving me a template of re-rolling ap4 to go along side my 10 kraken rounds/hellfire rounds or my 6 melta shots. and of course vulkan would be riding inside a rhino with them. The Lightning claw would help out with H2H as to take out as many gits with my sternies before they die. Also I was thinking about melta-bombs.
These would replace the terminators and I would use those extra points to get a drop pod for my dreadnaught. Also thought about getting rid of the attack bike and getting a MM/ HF speeder that I would deep strike next to the drop pod and then maybe If I take a librarian with Gate of infinity and place them with the sternies, then instant teleport to the action

I wouldn't put Vulkan with the sternguard, its a waste of his CC abilities and his chapter tactics can benefit them from any distance
I've tried the GoI libby with sternguard and tbh I find it ineffective, its just too unreliable and you can easily lose an expensive squad

True, but where should he be placed in my list w/o terminators? normal tactical marines will die to easily/wont do enough damage, and my HQ with my elites just seems right for some reason.
And yea I had enough experiences of my terminators teleporting into rocks to really want DS, but the locator beacon seems so fun.

What are you doing with that last tac squad? Since you took a RB I assume that you're combat squading them. Might a suggest a free heavy weapons upgrade the for the combat squad left behind?

Another crazy option that will force your opponent to get into close combat with you while letting you use that Sternguard squad.
3 Drop Pods
Tactical Squad - combi-melta, meltagun, multimelta, powerfist
Tactical Squad - combi-melta, meltagun, multimelta, powerfist
Sternguard - as many combi-melta as you can (that squad you described in a previous post works), powerfist
Put Vulkan AND pedro with Sternguards squad. Now you are guaranteed to be assaulted. Those powerfist will be put to good use AND 4 PF attacks is nothing to be sneezed at. And Vulkan with 4 attack base = AWESOME.

Haha that sounds awesome! My plan for higher point games is to take pedro and vulkan in a squad of assault terminators. maybe 2 lightning claw terminators and 3 TH/ SS terminators. 12 lightning claw and vulkans attacks, 15 on the charge, along with 9 mastercrafted hammers attacks, 12 on a charge, along with pedro's attacks. is that overkill?

Yes that would be overkill. You typically don't want overkill. You always want the fight to last exactly two player turns.
I guess you should try it out.

That would be incredible overkill, but tbh it could probably survive even if it did end up exposed for 1 turn!
I'd save that sort of unit for apoc games though, seems extremely point heavy and easy to ignore if your opponent is savvy enough

I thought so x-x yea maybe only for apoc games. although I do wanna go sternguard heavy for higher points, maybe take a land raider for one? or maybe take a landraider achillies and say "deal with it"?
or maybe just three vindicators or two and an executioner predator from forgeworld. I'm kinda stuck on what else I should get.

I am confused @Tiger9gamer, what is your question for this thread? Are you looking for a way to use Sternguard in that list you posted?
Are you looking for purchasing help to get your point level to X? -_-

Given that you are 200 pts from 1500, I would suggest two Predator (Auto/HB + magnetize so you can run Auto/Las) and 1 more speeder.
Aside from tactical terminators, I think you list is already good.

Alright here are the new changes to my list. I added a drop pod for the dread, added my sternguard in place of the terminators, and took a HF/MM speeder insited of an attack bike. HQ: Vulkan-190pts Elite 1: dreadnaught (MM, DCCW, drop pod)-140pts Elite 2: 7 Sternguard vets (5 combi guns, one meltagun and one heavy flamer Rhino)-250pts Troop1: Tactical squad (10 man, combi-flamer, meltagun, rocket launcher, rhino)-220pts Troop 2: Tactical squad (10 man, melta gun, combi-flamer, rhino)-220pts Troop 3 Tactical squad (5 man, Razorback)-165pts F/A 1: HF/MM speeder-70pts F/A 2: HF/MM speeder-70pts total-1,325pts Now to make up for that extra 175. here are some choices I thought of: 1st loadout (dont have the models yet): H/S: thunderfire cannon-100pts F/A: HF/MM speeder-70pts meltabombs someplace 2nd loadout: Predator w/ autocannon and lascannon sponsers-125pts MM attack bike (temperary)-50 3rd loadout (dont have models yet): Vindicator-115pts MM speeder-60pts good ideas? I'm partial to the 2nd loadout because I have those models and I can field them easily. I already am going to spend around 100$ on a droppod, veterans, razorback, and speeder. Edit: I answered my own question didnt I?

If you have the models for number 2 then you might as well use that and see if it works
If it doesn't work for you then try another...its important to remember we can only tell you what works for us. It could be completely different for you.
