On an earlier post somebody mentioned that the blood angels had an odd affinity for blood and death. This is obvious. But with the... red rage is it?.. it seems almost imminent that the blood angels in future editions might be slowly turning to chaos. What do you think?

There are blood angels that do fall to chaos, so it's not exactly unorthadox.

Of course there are marines of all chapters who have fallen to chaos. The Blood Angels are no different.

The Red Thirst is simply a trait on their geneseed. You can be blood-thirsty and not turning to chaos.

Idk. Blood Angels are crazy and all but it dosent mean the entire chapter is going to fall to chaos. Plus because of the black rage, a lot of them dont live long enough to make that decision.

I doubt the Blood Angels will ever turn to Chaos. A few of them can or will join Chaos simply because it is possible for any Marine bar Grey Knights to join Chaos. Blood Angels that succumb to the Red Thirst essentially have a blood lust for battle, specifically close combat. Those Blood Angels who succumb to the Black Rage join the Death Company, where their fury is unleashed one last time before either dying in battle or being slain by Astorath the Grim.

This brings up a point that I've always wondered though. How does Astorath travel so far so quicky to kill the leftover DC?

In a word? - No.

Cause GW would have a lot of explaining to do to Blood Angels fans and may provoke a potential firestorm of Wardian/Gotoian proportions.

Real World economic factors will always trump any decisionmaking that affects fluff/fiction.

Conversely - if GW had a reasonable feel of the BA fans predilections and the vast majority wanted the Chapter to go Chaos - they'd do it in a heartbeat.

They already have.

They just don't know it.

The chaos gods are forces of nature, they feed off emotion, they don't care if you wear bunny ears and yell blood for the blood god. Khorne care not from where the blood flows...

The BA's rage feeds chaos just as much as the World Eaters.

In 40k the only was to be free of chaos is to be free of emotion, which is why the perfect Imperial subject is drab little grey man with no hopes or dreams.

In 40k the lords of order are the (old) necrons, emotionless killing machines who offer chaos no food, or the ids, utterly focused eating machines with no stray thoughts.

The whole thing with the Black rage thing is they basically "relive" their sanguinius' battle with horus and the traitors for the glory of the emporer!!!

The red thirst on the other hand though

Their hate for chaos is very strong as they feel what Sanguinous felt when battling Horus while he was empowered by all four gods, yes individual members may fall to corruption but not the entire chapter. Besides doesn't the red thirst completely blind them with fury, even chaos requires some sort of reason to be joined.

Just look at it like this the Black Rage comes from a vision of Sanguinis battling and dying before Horus during the heresy so that makes them crazy with the desire for revenge....
The Red Thirst is the same lust that a vampire gets or shark gets once blood is spilled and they become ravenous for the taste of blood but in this case it is a bit more restrained they have some control over the Red Thirst.

The Blood Angels resist corruption every day of their lives.

It is extremely unlikely that they would turn to Chaos unless it was something very extreme, like heading into the EoT, being directly possessed, etc.

Well, half of them did unknowingly turn to and fight with Chaos during there civil war

I don't tihnk the blood angels will ever turn chaos. Even in the codex it states for more or less words that the forces of chaos are like the BA rivals. In there gene-seed they have memories of singuines( Or how ever you spell it) fighting horus and chaos and that makes them have an eternal hate for them.

For BA to turn to Chaos, GW would have to advance the plot. And that's just crazy talk.
