Anyone else noticed that Dakka have rearranged the forums so it now reads 'Flames of War and 15mm WW2' instead of Flames of War and other historical battles'? Looks like they realised that it's pretty much all that gets talked about here.

Yeah, I noticed it

General historical was starting to get buried so time to split, and we reorganised all the other forums in this section too to help encourage smaller manufacturers to prosper. Please use the mod alert yellow triangle on threads that you see need to be moved (but give us a day or two to take care of the obvious ones first please!)

And while we haven't earned a subforum yet, we do appreciate giving Infinity, Mantic, and Wyrd their own subsections. Keep up the great work Lego!

Mantic and Wyrd are very borderline cases at the moment, and will be renamed if another manufacturer overtakes them with a new, popular game. Enough organic posts for any game will justify a new forum. I've seen sneak previews of the stuff mantic have planned and am confident that they will continue to grow in popularity enough to have earned their place.

Can I suggest that this sub-forum should go a bit broader? There is a lot of cross-over between scales and rulesets when it comes to WW2 gaming. The best demonstration of this is Big P, who posts a lot of great models here and comments frequently on historical issues - he plays a non-FoW ruleset in 20mm. I suggest that you make this sub-forum 'Flames of War and other WW2 miniatures games'.

It was a tough choice to make it 15mm/fow compatible in here, but basically came down to general historical being a bit less popular and needing the padding of alternate ww2 stuff. Warlord are putting out so much good stuff at the moment that I didnt want them (and Big P's 20mm stuff) swamped by FoW posts, so I think the split works better this way. I was extremely tempted to just call general historical 'Big P's Forum'

LEGO, thank you from all the FOW players (yes I know you are one too!).

We now won't be drowning out the Napleonics, and historical buffs on Dakka, with endless FOW stuff. I appreciate the effort and time that you put forward a few months ago was the major reason, but I'm glad it's been done.

Thank you.

Yup, I'm looking forward to seeing more historical stuff and not having to wonder if the models I'm reading about here are the right scale for FoW. Now I'm off to go get 1 hour of well earned painting time in on my germans.

I am a bit confused now, since some of posts, regarding Battlefront rulesets but using alternatives miniatures from different companies have been moved to "Historical" - posts including Wargames Factory and PSC alike, while the post about PSC Shermans is still in this forum. So do we post everything which is related to Battlefront rules (FoW armylists and FoW miniatures) here, including the alternative companies, such as PSC, Wargames Factory, Peter Pig etc, or everything "non-Battlefront official" but still "15mm WW2" related goes to Historical?

PSC makes 1/72 stuff too, so you might be getting confused. Basically if it is 15mm WWII or FOW it goes in this forum. Everything else in the other.

The other new forums divide quite neatly, but the huge crossover in interest, rulesets and models for historicals/FoW has made the split of this forum quite tough and comments are welcome.

Here should be anything related to battlefront's rules and models, as well as anything related to 15mm ww2 models. WG factory and PSC 15mm stuff should certainly still be in here, so please flag posts that have been moved incorrectly.

Truly alternate 15mm ww2 rulesets are the complex one. Logically they should go in here, but they will get buried quite quickly, so we wont complain if they go into general historicals instead to get an audience for longer.

Battlefront Vietnam is also a bit complex. For now I've just left the threads in here as they are covered under 'battlefront'.

I still think it's better to put all the WW2 stuff together. Anyone who's interested in the period benefits from the modelling and historical discussion, and you'll end up with a lot of arbitrary decisions as to which forum stuff belongs in.

The following posts from Historicals should be in this forum instead:
Grenadier Company advice
Possible US infantry alternative coming from Wargames Factory? (yes, I know that's my post
Late German Infantry - coming alternative from Wargame Factory (another one from Your humble servant)
New Game from Zvezda!!! (it is more about 1:100 alternative minis rather than Zvezda ruleset )

Great move.

I think the Battlefront tag may be superfluous but otherwise spot on.

We wanted to make space for new manufacturers without mashing them all in to one place, so once various game manufacturers hit a certain level of traffic, we'll consider adding a new forum area for them, or more likely rename the worst performing existing forum and clearing it out (moving the old content to misc. games). Going by manufacturer seems the most logical way to split up content now, as a lot of stuff was getting lost or ignored before.

I still think it's better to put all the WW2 stuff together. Anyone who's interested in the period benefits from the modelling and historical discussion, and you'll end up with a lot of arbitrary decisions as to which forum stuff belongs in.

If everyone feels the same then I dont mind that being the policy, but personally I prefer to just browse FoW and compatible stuff sometimes, and like to see general WW2 stuff other times and this format lends itself more to that. If a majority of you think that ww2 should all be in one place (and swamped by FoW threads), then I am not completely against it.

I think that 'Flames of War' should be the defining motif. That would include FoW Vietnam and Spanish Civil War (if anyone else does that) as well as any other manufacturers (Pig, Zvesda, PSC ect. etc.) that are relevant to the game.

There's a Flames of War Spanish Civil War ruleset? Or are we just basically talking about scenario play using the regular FOW rules?

I personally think all WWII stuff should be together. On some level I feel like segregating Flames of War from the rest of the WWII historical community could have a detrimental effect. New Flames of War players especially could benefit from some good influence (and inspiration) from people who are old hands in the historical scene, and keeping WWII stuff together just seems more intuitive.

As long as people label what scale their miniatures are when they post pics, I don't think there would be a big problem with people getting confused about what's what.

Not an official ruleset AFAIK. But I have a copy of a Spanish magazine that printed lists. I'm building a small force for it.
