I, in the past months, have given my small band of Moria goblins to my little 5 year old brother. I possess a good sized collection of LOTR myself and decided to let my bro into the hobby that I love so much. When I looked for some models to paint with him (He paints astoundingly well for his age), I stumbled across 5 weapon-armless Warriors of Minas Tirith spearmen.
I dig through my bitz, pull out some swordless-Rivendell Elves and lop off their right-arms. Then shave down the remnants of past blades/cloaks and glue them onto 3/5 of the gondorians. These men were then given warg-rider blades and the hilt glued to the end to accentuate a long hilted (2-handed) sword that they were wielding one handed. (sorry if that is confusing). The last 2 were given warg-rider throwing spear arms with spearheads that have had their barbs removed. They are now in the process of being painted. This brings me to bear 3 warriors w/ sword/shield and 2 with spear/shields. I have a few questions and ideas to be presented to Dakka.
-I would like to lead my force with Beregond and Pippin-GotC in small games, representing a small band of defenders in Minas Tirith led by good ol' Beregond and dear little Took, Games will only ever hit 500points at max it seems, Is it the smartest Idea to get two heroes for the price of one for the sake of a theme? I only want opinions, as the Dynamic Duo stays. (Beregond will "bodyguard" Pippin when running BRB rules Set)
I have-42 points
3 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ Shields
2 Warriorsof Minas Tirith w/ Shields, Spears
The first Additions-150 points
Beregond
Peregrin, Gaurd of the Citadel
4 warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
4 warriors of Minas Tirith w/ Spear, shields
4 warriors of Minas Tirith w/ bows
Total:192
Beregond
Peregrin, Gaurd of the Citadel
7 warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
6 warriors of Minas Tirith w/ Spear, shields
4 warriors of Minas Tirith w/ bows
I know there will be talk about lack of Might Points in this list, but what about manpower? Mine holds a good number of troopers and has as many might points as a normal captain, along with double the will and fate!
Has anyone fared well with a twin-hero deal or Minor Special Characters in general? (Damrod, Beregond, Peregrin, Meridoc, etc in Gondor etc lists.) I would like any tips from any with experience in this field. (This excludes the Elf twin Panzees)

You have plenty of Man power, but Pippin tends to be horribly squishy.

Panzees? I play them with my Elves at 500 points. They have never lost me a match.

Beregond is a steal so no problems there but skeptical on poor pippin, points wise he ain't worth it, sure he has two fate but they don't count for crap if he can't kill anything
The twins are solid characters certainly no panzees!
Any of the characters at the 20-30 point mark are worth it except hobbits. Eowyn being the best. Just remember though you need a couple of mid/top end characters for the might, it really does win games. So the answer to your other question is yes, might really does matter.

Ok, so I just ordered a kit of Warriors of Minas Tirith bringing me to this as what I have: 11 WoMT w/ shield 10 WoMT w/ spear, shield 8 WoMT w/ bows Total of 29 Troopers -I am adding on Pippin, despite his obvious squishiness, because of the fact that I am adding Beregond. (You know why if you have read the books.) -I am probably set as far as troops. With the two heroes I should be at about 292, the next thing is elite units, -I do not really want to do Guardians of the fountain Court or Citadel Guard, because I want to keep it focused on the soldiery. -An avenger crossbow seems fragile, but effective. -Gandalf the white to fill out a defense of Minas Tirith force. -A Banner or two to allow those precious re-rolls. -Any suggestions?

Catapaults are a HUGE gamble.
A banner is always helpful, but don't overdo it.
Yes, you've got a good supply of troops in there.

I am sorry, I meant Avenger CROSSBOW. Sorry for the massive typo, I have fixed it.
I think that only 1 or 2 banners is necessary. They eat up points.

A single banner is all that you want for 500pts.
Not a fan of avenger crossbows but I guess if that is the theme you wish to follow they kind of become essential. Same with Gandalf. No citadel guard? May I ask why not as I am sure they are part of the minas tirith defence?

I want to focus on the main soldiery of Gondor, so no citadel guard or feather-heads.
The force is mainly Beregond and Pippin leading warriors. Simple really. I just themed the Beregond and Pippin together of of their friendship. Not exactly the whole theme yet, I am taking little steps, but Gandalf will be there!

If this is the theme you want to run then this is the army I would play.
Beregond
6 WoMT w/ shield
5 WoMT w/ shield and spear
Captain w/ shield
6 WoMT w/ shield
5 WoMT w/ shield and spear
Captain w/ bow
10 WoMT w/bow
Avenger Crossbow
Pippin
Total 496pts, Count 37, BP 19, Bows 11 (29% not including heroes in count).
Sorry there's no Gandalf in there but his huge cost will cripple you at 500pts even in a fun game, this way you have a decent stock of might and 3 dozen bodies as well as your siege bow. How's that?

That is pretty good list there, quite tempting.
I plan on running Beregond with archers, because of Beregond's skill with a bow and the power of his bow.
For some reason... I do not want to use standard captains.....hmm not a wise choice but a nagging one. Gonna have to think about that.

Well you said it! not wise, who were you thinking of instead?
Fair enough on Beregond and the bows, infact it would be wiser to have more might in the combats anyway.

I was thinking of taking Faramir in Heavy Armour. He was a defender of Minas Tirith.
Faramir w/ Heavy Armour
8 WoTM w/ shields, spears
4 WoTM w/ shields
Beregond
8 WoTM w/ bows
4 WoTM w/ Shields
-300 exactly for small games.
Expanding to 500:
-Pippin
-???
Trouble with expanding:
I was thinking of a few Knights of Minas Tirith to be led by Faramir and then take Damrod to go where Faramir was.
(Model Damrod with Heavy Armour due to similarity of Defense values to standard troops.)
Any suggestions?
