Name: 276th mechanized regiment
Home planet: Crozia
Numbers: 50,000 guardsmen (20,000 of them are reserve, 10,000 of them dedicated to holding defensive lines), 5000 chimeras, 150 hellhounds
Specialty: Mechanized warfare

Story:
The 276th mechanized division is a renowned guard regiment that has participated in many campaigns across the galaxy noted for using an unusually large number of chimeras and hellhounds the regiment is able to quickly get its troops to the needed points of the battle field to carry out their objective unlike other regiments they do not have many commissars in them due to the regiment being in chimeras for most of their deployment time, also it rare to see their troops exiting their chimeras when not on the defensive as regiment command belives that the extra firepower added by the troops to the chimeras is too beneficial to waste on meaningless objectives, however in urban warfare guardsmen in chimera are usually expected to exit and use the chimeras and mobile cover when taking a or exiting a taken building, each guardsmen squad of the 276th is made of anywhere from 5 to 15 guardsmen as squads lose troopers they are merged together each trooper in a squad is highly equipped a lasgun,shotgun,a few extra lasgun ammo packs and a few extra grenades that tends to weigh down the trooper which is why they spend most the time a chimera. However since there are not enough chimeras for every trooper to fit in 20,000 troopers are left in reserve just in case the battle gets desperate a further 10,000 troopers are dedicated objective holders and the rest usually ride on the chimeras or hellhounds and take what ever cover they can find battle

The 276th is also known for using hellhounds mostly to clear bunkers and in urban warfare, hellhounds in this mechanized regiment have extra armor bolted on to them due to many enemies they face will have some form of anti Armor weapons for most other roles however the chimera takes over

Crozia:
Crozia is a desert planet with over 70% of the planet is covered in sand dunes and only 30% of it has oceans large rock formations and trees are the only natural shelter offered here, however there is a large number of aquatic and aerial wildlife on the planet when the imperium discovered this planet around the 34th millennium they found the sand to soft for and permanent structures more than 3 stories tall and no use for large scale farming.

The natives are usually hardy and tough living off the land by hunting,fishing and a bit of farming most of the cities are near the coastline using every resource available, to make sure that they have enough food There are however many tribes that dwell in the deeper deserts some are friendly and welcoming to outsides, others are hostile and savage and are almost always at war with one another making them excellent warriors and hunters

The imperium decreed that the massive abundance of marine life in the oceans was suitable enough to make into a minor agriculture world and established an outpost just outside the capital coastal city of Kazzbul from which they collected the tilthe of food, The imperium soon saw the skill of the hunters and tribal warriors of the planet and established serveral regiments some demonstrated remarkable still with chimeras and were made into mechanized regiments.

However endless war and campaigns have diminished all but the 276th mechanized regiment who due to the planets small populace makes them the only Crozian regiment in service today.

Notable Engagements:

-The heretical cardinal Lexon is finally killed after a 20 year campaign involving 2 chapters and 12 regiments (The 276th was among them)

-waagh Ghuzskull is stopped in its tracks after a brutal campaign lasting 30 years the 275th,201st Crozian Regiments are completely destroyed

-The 276th is destroyed after a daemonic incursion of nurgle claims the planet of peneshia. The 276th is refounded 50 years after its destruction

-The Rebel world of loran 7 is able hold off many imperial attacks for a few years due to their hit and run tacyics, The 276th is deployed to the warzone using large numbers of chimeras, the imperials are able to catch and destroy the light rebel vehicles resulting in an imperial victory 2 years later

-The largest tank battle since tallarn takes place on the desert planet of solon, The iron warriors launch a massive seige on the planet for some unknown objective, The imperium responds in kind sending over 50 regiments to deal with them over 600,000 vehicles and millions of infantry fight on the surface of the planet the iron warriors are defeated after 16 years of fighting, The 276th suffes 90% casulaties

-The 276th along with the 274th,273rd,281st and the 221st Crozian regiments are completely wiped out by a combined attack of world eaters, word bearers, emporers children and angels of ecstasy on the planet cyrin defending a hive world being evacuated shortly after the battle further regiments with the exception of the 276th are not to be created agian until the planets population reaches stable levels

-The 276th holds an ancient outpost which contains a old but functioning landraider from an ork waagh of bork for more than 10 weeks before mechanicus reinforcements showed up to claim the land raider the mechanicus gifted the regiment with a few finely build chimeras

-The population of the planet sopah rebels after a chaos cult comes out of hiding leading the population to over throw the imperial government the 276th is sent to deal with the rebels, unfortunately the rebels have managed to dig them selves in at the hive city palace and the regiments chimeras could not do enough damage to break their lines, infantry charges get wiped out as they cannot get past the heavy weapons fire.
Seeing no other option the regiment sends their hellhounds supported by chimeras roasted the rebels defensive positions and caused such pasic that the hives entire populace was wiped out within a month.

-The 276th participated in a 100 year crusade which saw the defeat of hive fleet kronos and liberated 70 planets from the ork empire of bonesmasha during the this time the regiment was combined several times with reginments from krieg, catachan and tallarn troopers

-The 276th is currently engaging necrons at the palliath sector, casualties are high, awaiting reinforcements

doesnt the codex say that each regiment is 3000 men? i thought even Chevnov (i know im wrong) was like upwards of 15,000?

What other sort of weapons do the regiment use? I mean, I know about the Hellhounds and Chimeras, but what is the Special Weapons, do they use any heavy weapons? And in that case which? What kind of personal armour and uniforms?

As I think, due to planetary description, likely something along the lines of the Tallarn.

More like they vary from type of Regiment. The ( crappy ) explanation of Regiments from a few hundred to a hundred-thousand being the size wouldn't matter but the fighting "power"...
Sure, a Regiment in 40k terms is different from our known actual definition of a Regiment in Real life.
Still a Regiment is to organize units of a military formation to act together and be effective whilst doing it. And there GW failed.
Back in the day of detailed fluff, a Regiment wasn't the only known form of organization.
Now, you get a Regiment as a classification and a Regimental organization mentioned in codex IG:
- squads of ten organized in Platoons,
- Companies formed from Platoons,
- Regiments formed from Companies.
Thus using the IG codex, 3-20 companies of 3-6 platoons each.

regiments size varies each time a new regiment is founded and doesn't account for losses

ie when the Tanith regiments were formed they were 2000 each but some conscript regiments can be huge but poorly equiped

I'm going to assume you're asking "Since when was there room for 12 in a Chimera, I thought it was only 10?" here. Chimeras can hold 12 guys in the current codex, and I'm pretty sure they could in the last codex as well.

For Priests, Commissars, and the occasional Primaris Psyker
