So we have starting playing alot more WHFB in our little group and after 20 odd years plus playing 40k are still wrapping our heads around some rules...

TERROR popped up last night...

Our understanding is this........

TERROR is FEAR thus you take a Fear test and if you pass great if you fail you go to WS1.

If you are charged by a Terror causing unit in the first turn you must ALSO take a PANIC test. If you fail that you FLEE.

So if you pass the panic test and stand your ground, the next turn of combat TERROR only causes FEAR from then on.........

Is this right?

Terror matters when the causer charges if he charges the same unit next turn they will take the test again. Keep in mind however that terror causes panic tests so no matter the number of terror causers charging it a unit must only take one test per phase.

And remember that if a Terror charges a Fear causer they don't take a Terror test. Just a fear test once combat rolls around.

A good break down is as follows.

Fear vs non-fear causer. non-fear causer takes a fear test at start of combat round.

Terror vs non-fear causer. non-fear causer takes a panic test when charged. If failed, unit flees as a charge reaction. If passed, charge is resolved as normal. non-fear causer also takes a fear test at start of combat.

Terror vs Fear causer. Fear causer takes a fear test at start of combat round.

Terror vs Terror. Nothing.

Terror vs Immune to Psychology. Nothing.

So if a Terror causing unit is in CC with a unit and it is a draw lets say..... because the Terror causing unit DID NOT charge... for the 2nd round... You are only testing for Fear?

For added complication, if you are charged by a terror causer that has the random movement rule, e.g. Skaven Doomwheel & HPA, a terror test for being charged is not required as the random move rules mean that you get no charge reaction options.
However the fear check at the start of the combat phase still applies.
