I often think about adding extra bits to vehicles but I never add much. if you see something like a Forge World Ork Battle Fortress posing as a Battlewagon (even if it's too big) or a Pimped Out DE Raider that your opponent says is just like all his other tanks, do you still fire more shots at it when it's a choice between other equally valid targets?.

In the case of the battlewagon there are two reasons I would conceivably shoot it first:

1. The payload that battlewagon is carrying is extremely dangerous (Like a kitted out Nobs Squad)
2. Since it's so big, it's the only battlewagon I currently have LOS to.

I think that the psychological trick would probably work on younger or less experienced players, but probably not across the board.

This. Our store has lots of customized models, so we're used to seeing things like a chimera with tons of kit strapped to it or an extremely blinged out battlewagon. We establish what upgrades things have before the game, and we're set. We know whats the real threat and wont shoot at something just because it looks scarier.

However, I know that some people like to focus fire on models that have just finished being painted. A sort of "trial by fire" if you will

Oh no! Sad face! That's why you put the KFF in THAT battlewagon.

A lot of people tend to "fire on the big one" in regards to point cost, but not usually due to actual size. Still, it would be a tiny bit unnerving having a massive model staring you down.

On a side note, I have more than once focused fire on my opponent's best painted unit in order to have it removed and thus give passers-by the impression that I am the better painter.

Why wouldn't you have your scariest, most badass unit to the fore anyway?

I shoot at the biggest, nastiest looking thing in the army if given the option. It just feels better when the giant monsters are off the table.

Interesting...

A walker Chimera would be awesome. Maybe base it off some of the Star Wars AT vehicles...

Mmmmm...

Walker Chimera...

As a Tyranid player, I always send my Hive Tyrant at the most highly decorated model on the field. Always makes for an interesting duel.

Shoot the biggest or shoot the closest. There's a reason I run 3 lone deff koptas in my Ork list. It's funny how much shooting they soak up on turn 1 and even turn 2 while my Ork Boys are running across the field...
