Here's something to argue about:

a manticore shot scatters into assault and 2 shots are rolled on the d3. the firer then proceeds to roll a hit on the directional die for the second shot. what happens under these two scenarios

First- the template cannot be placed without touching enemy models in assault
Second- template cannot be placed without touching friendly models

maybe the ruling is simple but i'm sure if anyone can complicate things...

Barrage weapons still use the rules for blast weapons and as such can scatter onto models locked in combat and your own troops. The initial blast determines where the salvo will have scattered, any subsequent hits or scatters are placed off of this first blast and not the initial target point. Since you still scattered, all other blast markers are assumed to have scattered as well. This means you can place the markers however which way you'd like.
