So I've got a casual game coming up, and I thought I'd try a slightly more fun list, away from the usual optimised Jumper list. And this is what I have come up with so far,

Astorath 220
Libraian Terminator Armour 100
Troops
Assualt Squad 10 marines, powerfist,2 x meltagun, 235
Assualt Squad 10 marines, powerfist, 2 x meltagun, 235
Assualt Sqaud 10 Marines, LC 2 x Flamer 220
Elites
2 x Sanguinary Priest, Jump pack 150
Ass. Terminators TH/SS x 2 210
Heavy Support
Devastators 3 x ML 1 x LC 145
Transport
Land Raider Crusader, Multi Melta 260
1775

Any advice on what I could spend the extra points on, its a 2000 point game. Any advice on anything I could switch around etc.etc.etc would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I have the models to put out pretty much anything, Corbulo could work with the Terminators, to make them even harder to kill. Not sure about Sang Guard without Dante.

Well if you don't take the SG then definitely take the Baal Predators but yea Corbulo will make your Termies beast.

Why Astorath? You aren't running any DCso he doesn't really fit...

You have a LRC, you could take a few more termies.

Another Assault squad isn't a bad idea

A priest to run with the terminators is a good call too

Because he's cool.

I could put another two in the squad and have corbulo join them, or a priest in terminator armour?

I've also just penned this list together as an alternative.

Mephiston - 250

How about some Devastators? You currently lack anti-tank. Meltaguns are nice but something that can open boxes from range is always a good idea.

I would DEFINETLY reccomend a Storm Raven. A bit expensive but that thing can bring down some hurt.

This does not work. Corbulo cant take a jump pack, SG have to take JP's.

If you want to take Cobulo, take him with Terminators and make sure he does not get into CC (ie hide him in a transport and un-attach him as they unit disembarks.)

However, i do not see the point in taking him, he is twice the points and does the same thing as a reg. SP....

Have you considered an HG unit? They are versitile and can be equiped with a variety of weapons. They would also fit into the Jump side of your list.

As Mr.E posted, Dev squads are great! I usually run them with 3 ML and 1 Lascannon. Using the signum to boost the Lascannon. Comes out to 145 pts per squad.

Yeah I run a HG unit in my normal list, but I'm trying to move away from that for this list and go more fluffy/fun and use some of the models I haven't used yet.

Here is my standard list,

HQ
Librarian - Jump pack, rage and sheild, - 125
Librarian - Jump pack, rage and sheild - 125
Honour Guard - Jump Packs, 3 x Melta gun, Blood Champion - 225

Troops
Assualt Squad ten marines - power fist, melta, melta. 235
Assualt Squad ten marines - powerfist, melta, melta. 235
Assualt Squad ten marines - powerfist, melta, melta.235
Assualt Squad ten marines - powerweapon, flamer, flamer 215
Scout Squad - Heavy bolter, camo cloaks.100

Elites
Sanguinary Priest x 2 jump packs - 150

Fast attack
Vanguard vets 5 marines - jump packs,
2 x powersword, - 195

Heavy Support
Devastator Squads 2x Missile Launchers, 2xLascannon.160
Total - 2000

i'm trying to keep the ASM core of the list, and then put in fun units around the edge. Thanks for the comments.

Edited the first list, to add Devastators. Still some points spare though.

What about taking Death Company with JP's to fill out the remainder of the points? You could attach Astorath to them and make them a small Death Star??

HQ:
Libby w/ TDA and SS

Astorath

Elite:
Assault Terminators 4x LC 1x TH/SS
LRC w/MM

Sang Priests x2 w/ JP's

Troop:
Assault Squad x10 w/ PF and 2x Metlaguns

Assault Squad x10 w/ PF and 2x Metlaguns

Assault Squad x10 w/ LC and 2x Flamers

Death Company x8 w/ JP's, 2x PW, PF

2000pts

Fits with the fluff and would be fun to play. Especially seeing the DC jump around causing trouble.

haha well.......that unit comes out to 335pts. You could definitly find a better use for the points if you are going for list optimization, but for a fun list oh well!

Looks good to me. One question: Are you planning on just jumping Mephi across the board? He is deadly, but exposing him to mass fire longer than you have to will lead to a few wounds most likely before he reaches combat.

I think you will be happy with the dev squad and the typhoon providing fire support.

Well with Mephi, if I get first turn, I'll deploy him as far up the board if I can, hopefully get wings off, and then fleet, so maybe a second turn charge for him. If I don't get first turn, I'll hide him out of LOS and then go for a third turn assualt, the only thing that worries me slightly is the lack of sheild. I'm up against chaos, so don't really know what to expect.

I'm beginning to annoy myself now as I have just had an idea for another list, something like this...

Commander Dante 225
Sanguinor 275
2 x Sang Priests, JP 150
1 Sang. Guard, Chapter Banner, Infernous Pistol 240
1 Sang. Guard, Powerfist, Infernous Pistol 220
ASM Melta Melta PF 235
ASM Melta Melta PF 235
ASM Flamer Flamer LC Melta bombs 215
Vanguard vets 5 marines - jump packs,
2 x powersword, Powerfist Sgt. - 205

Well the good thing about chaos is that they come in 50% at a time. The mephi list has plenty of dakka (i would switch the Lascannon for the ass can on the sr) which is what you want against all those invul saves. Causing the Daemon player to take saves means they are failing some. The typhoon and the dev squad will be perfect if they bring any daemon princes as you will have the advantage of range and you can just send salvo after salvo into it.

You mean run? Mephi doesn't have fleet. He is a fire magnet. He is a close combat beast, so your opponent will do everything to gun him down. Also, he doesn't have a jump pack, so he can't deep strike. this means he is not a good choice for a jumpers based list.

However, you have put a Storm raven in your list, and that makes a good Mephiston delivery device. But it will draw ALL your opponent's fire If you want a really fun list (that I am desperate to play but don't have $120 for a couple storm ravens) stick Mephi in one Stormraven and DC with Lemartes in another Stormraven. Doesn't matter which one your opponent manages to shoot down, the other one will deliver a world of close combat hurt into their lines.

Otherwise, because he is just normal marine sized, Mephiston works great in a hybrid list. Have 4 - 6 vehicles and he can hide behind them very well until close enough to charge something.

Mephi does have Fleet. Making him even more brutal.

I agree the Stormraven delivery is awesome. I do that myself. Load him with a Blender Dread in a SR and just flat out towards the best target for them.

Yeah I'm sure Meph does have fleet, which is one of his biggest strengths, if you're lucky you can end up in a first turn assualt with him.

By chaos I meant Chaos Space Marines, sorry, any knowledge on them?

What do you guys think of the Sang. Guard list?

Oh sorry! I assumed Daemons.
CSM.....Mephi will walk through that army. Add that into the equation with the rest of your list (same goes for Daemon princes with CSM) and you should have a fun time of it. Chaos Termies are best taken care of at distance, whatever those big walker things are should not be a problem for melta/lascannons/mephi. Other than that, I would say it is like playing a vanilla marine army.

Sang. Guard list looks fun! The sanguinor will make the list hit hard. Dante will help pop high priority AV when he and whatever squad you attach him too come in. I would look to replace the VV though. You have plenty of power weapons already. Maybe another unit of ASM or an HG with Plamsaguns?

Yeah I probably should have been more specific, on what type of Chaos. Are Chaos Termies, much different to Imperial Termies? And are they called Defillers? The big walker things, can't see them being too much of a problem.

I did consider the extra ASM and a HG with Meltas, but my VV models look so damn cool, i love playing with them. Maybe when I finish converting up my HG i'll use them.

Not much differnent from Imperial Termies at all, they can be given some chaos gift thing i think, not sure what is called. other than that they are the same.

I hear you on using sweet models. VV should work just great, especially if they succum to the red thirst!!

Yeah I hear you on the Red Thirst for VV's FC deep strike assualt, brutal. Which is why I'm desperate to use Astorath one of these day, but can't get him to fit in a list, other than an all Death Company one.
