You can only take executioner units and black guard in 20 man I believe.

Black Guard are capped at 20 models per unit, Executioners however are not.

How many points is this? 2400/2500? It makes a bit of a difference so it'd be helpful to know.

On the Dreadlord, I tried out Soul Render for a bit but I ended up going with the Sword of Might and shield for a 1+ in close combat. He still hits fairly hard, but he's just that bit more survivable which I preferred.

The level 4 doesn't need a ward save. I'd swap it for Lifetaker and use the remaining points to put the Dreadlord on a Dark Pegasus if you can fit them both in (whether you're playing 2400 or 2500 will make a difference here).

What lore do you have on the hero mage? Fire/Metal would be good ideas, if you go with Metal then you only really need a level 1.

The Cauldron doesn't need any upgrades beyond being the BSB, you won't really get great use out them.

Full command would be nice on the Warriors.

Depending on how much you need for core (this is again where the 2400/2500 difference comes in), you might be able to cut anywhere from 1-5 xbows to free up some points in your special for shades.

If you're running Shadow, Executioners don't really add anything. I'd be inclined to swap them out for 20 Black Guard with a musician, who tbh are just all round better, especially if you have Shadow support. With the points you save, you might just be able to fit in 10 shades.

I'm not really a fan of hydras, with the Dreadlord and Cauldron and Shadow magic and Corsairs (especially if you put in the Black Guard) they just don't really add anything beyond being a big target for magic/war machines. I'd much rather take another 10 shades.

It's 2400.

The shadow is mainly for Pit, Enfeebling and Withering. Mindrazor is just a bonus if i do get it.

I generally run the sword of might/shield. But I wanted something different.

And whilst I can see what you mean by my level 4 not needing a ward save. I take it on the have it and not need it over the need it and not have it.

My level 2 is on dark magic. I really like it. I forgot to write it down on the list.

I gave the cauldron witchbrew just in case it gets charged and somehow survives...Call it wishful thinking if you will.

The 20 warriors are a sacrificial block so I kept them minimum.

I've personally never been a fan of shades.

As for the executioners, they appeal to me. I do run black guard, but 20 never seems to be enough for me.

Again, the hydra just appeals to me.

Tome of Furion and Dispel scroll are both arcane, so the lv2 can only have one or the other.

I got confused as to whether it was enchanted or arcane and I didn't have the rulebook to hand. Oh well. Corrected it.
