Hey all, here's my questions:

If two of my units multi assault one enemy unit, and win combat, then the enemy breaks - do I choose which of my units attempts a sweeping advance or do both roll for it? And if both roll for it and suceed in chasing them down do both units advance the die roll as far as possible while not moving within 1" of eachother? I'm not sure how it works at all! Wasn't a problem with my DE force, but now I'm collecting my second army, Daemons, I can see this happening a lot!

Its 1 Combat, so you roll to sweeping advance once.

After that both of your units get a d6 consol.

Cool ok, so if the two units that won the combat for me have different Initiative do I just use the one with the highest to see if the once sweeping advance is successful in the first place?

Both your units get to roll, the enemy unit rolls once.

And it doesn't matter which unit SAs the enemy. The result is the same (consolidate).

ok great, that makes sense, thanks i was under the impression that when you SA you move in the direction the enemy unit ran as you chase them down, but if it's just a standard consolidate move and both my units can go D6 anywhere if one or both SA rolls are successful then that's all gravy for me!

Success or failure of the sweeping advance has no bearing on the d6 consolidate, you will get the consolidate no matter what the SA result is.

yeah I thought it was only standard consolidate if the enemy ran and got away, thought SA moves were different but apparently not, either way it makes for happy daemons thanks all

Remember that in a multiple combat, all victorious units roll their Sweep, and it is applied to whichever units are falling back which each unit was actually engaged with.

Remember also that if you're in combat with multiple enemy units, you can't roll Sweep unless ALL of them are fleeing.

thanks I need to swat up on the combat rules - i played nids in 3rd ed when it was all different, and since i got back into the hobby last year the only army i've played in 5th is a shooty mech Dark Eldar - so until now when i'm collecting Daemons as my second army it never really came up! Thanks for the input everyone

SA is not a move. it is just a roll to see if your enemies are destroyed and taken off the table.

Consolidation is a move after the SA roll.

The clue is in the 3rd ed reference, when SA WAS a move (from memory) - it stopped being a move per se in 4th, and just an indication of how fast your unit reacted.
