Subject: Battlewagon tactics, a noob with some questions

I have been running a battlewagon list of orks at 1850. I am relatively new to Warhammer 40k, but I love playing and am about 2/3's of the way to completely my table top army. I have been playing a lot on Vassal to learn the game and get a feel for some lists. I know most of the rules but I would love if anyone could help me clarify a few important rules for a battlewagon army. Here are my questions:
1) How far can a heavy vehicle move and still deploy?
2) How far can a heavy vehicle move and still have the unit inside shoot?
3) How far can a fast vehicle move and deploy?
Also when calling a WAAAGGHHH do you get extra movement when rolling the d6 or is that just a normal run movement?
Thanks.

I always press dat, if you know what I mean. |

1) Cruising speed, 12" (13 with RPJ)
2) Combat speed, up to 6" (7 with RPJ)
3) Cruising speed, 12" (13 with RPJ)
It is a normal run movement., WAAAAGH just grants you Fleet, which means you can assault after it, and adds the penalty for rolling a 1.

If you can find the points, I suggest taking Ghaz. Making the run become an auto 6" is a very nice thing to rely on when getting those turn 2 assaults.
Out of curiosity, what's your list?

My 1850:
Ghaz
Big Mek (KFF, shoota/skorcha)
Troops:
17 shoota, Nob(Pk)
19 shoota boyz Nob(Pk)
11 boyz, Nob(PK, BP)=112
7 Nobs 5-Big Choopas, 2Pk, 1 Waagh Banner, 1 BP, all 'eavy armor, all cybork, Painboy, a lot of different kombi weapons for wound allocation.
2 Trukks 2 reinforced rams
Elite:
10 burnas= 105
10 lootas
Heavy support:
3 Battlewagons (3 Deff rollers, 3big shootas)
Burnas, and two groups of boyz in the batttlwagon, Big Mek with the burnas, Ghaz rides in the smaller shoota boyz wagon.
Faced a blood angels list with three Storm Ravens in it. We were playing capture control, only lost one group of shoota boyz, almost wiped him. The lootas were awesome that game at popping the ravens. Got extremelly lucky one turn which helped me win even more, he accumulated 7 hits on my lootas with his one raven, he round 6 2's and a 1 to wound, it was hilarious. I had them in a big crater all game and their cover saves kept them healthy enough they blew up two ravens, then Ghaz came out the last two rounds and completely swept 2 squads of assualt marines with the feel no pain guy and one other of his HQ's, his waaagh was amazing.

I'd split those lootaz into 2x 5. That way they are harder to remove and you get to shoot two targets. Long term, I would aim for getting a fourth wagon for those nobz and a unit of warbuggies, but I think you'll be doing fine with what you have.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Your wagons are really bare. You should put some plates on them, to ensure that you don't get shut down everytime you get stunned. I also really like grot riggers to repair stuff. Then when wagons get immobilized, you have a chance to get them back in the fight. Also, if your big shoota gets shot off, the the riggers can fix it so you have anouther chance to weather a weapon destroyed result without being immobilized.

Grot Riggers don't repair Weapon Destroyed results, only immobilized.

You can neither deploy nor shoot after doing so, though, which is what the OP asked.

You are correct, and I overlooked the "...and still deploy." so yes 12/13 then...
Anyone else find it flawed how if a fast vehicle(open-topped) moves 12" none of the units inside can shoot unless they also decide to disembark in which case they can shoot/run and/or assault like normal?!
