So I've been playing ridiculous amounts of Zelda these days. It's possibly my biggest time consumer, and an idea struck me. It's something I've seen before, and always wanted to try myself. I'm thinking, once I get my actual regular-play list of Space Marines down, I could start a little pet project of mine. Mainly, a Zelda-themed space marine army, painted as though they were a sort of futuristic Hylian knights. I'd give them an awesome red and gold paint scheme, with the eagle and triforce on the shoulder. I'm thinking of fluffing them as a mainly close-combat army, but I'm also wondering if maybe the Blood Angels or Black Templar rule-sets would be appropriate?

Comments, questions, discussion.;

So they are a quite cool coloured, unique space marine army? Sounds like a win to me.

And I don't know zelda stuff, so I can't help with which codex is the best. But I do want to see the models, sounds like a good idea.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Well, it's gonna be a while till they're done, considering my 1000-point first army isn't done yet, but I'll put those up when they're done and we'll see from there.

So first off, what game is your favourite? My dad loves the original & loves to hate Zelda II, mine is a toss up between Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. (ocarina is slightly ahead as my all time fav though!)

Anyways, a Legend of Zelda theme would be ace! Probably a good idea though to first find a photo of the winged triforce icon and then re-size it, and finally print it out onto transfer sheets. I know I'd hate to paint that over and over again myself.

How about your termies (if you include any) = Armos Knights?!

As for the codex to use, why not SW's? Templars are ancient and their codex seems to favour a termie heavy + typhoon style list to be competitive. BA's is still a good book, but with SW's, you can use alot of wolf guard and get come really unique wargear combos going.
You could even use the added HQ slots to et-up your characters for example as say;
Logan Grimnar (for Troops wolf guard) = Gannondorf
Ragnar Blackmane = Link
Rune Priest = Princess Zelda
Rune Priest or Ven Dread! = Impa

That's if you want the main iconic characters in your army of course!

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I don't think the SW codex would be a good idea. I mean, it just wouldn't feel like having the right rules.

I think BA would be better, especially if fluff is tending towards CC. I don't know any BT rules but I think that would be really cool for fluff adaptaion, the BT being all knightly and so forth.

Well, for first, A Link to the Past is most likely my favorite. That game is literally my childhood.

Well, I'm making this list for complete fluff-value, so on another thought, an individual codex doesn't quite do it for me. I'm probably just going to go with vanilla.

As for naming different troops, you totally read my mind. I'm gonna have to fluff rant on you for a bit, so buckle down.

The Hylian Knights are a chapter based on the planet Hyrule, a small world on the very, very, very edge of Ultramar. They are a 7th founding chapter, descended from Gulliman by way of the Sons of Orar chapter. They are, for the most-part, codex compliant, save for a few traditions and differences in naming, which stem from the planet's rich military culture and myth, as well as for a hoast of fearsome creatures that live, or once did live, on Hyrule.

A Marine of the Hylian Knights chapter is a Knight, first and foremost. His official title is Brother-Knight, before any rank or specialization. This serves as a reminder, of the oaths taken by the Hylian Knights of old. A Knight serves humanity, first and fore-most, no matter his station or duty.

Tactical Marines are referred to as Hylians; the name for the long extinct abhuman race that had once been the masters of Hyrule, before the time of the Emperor. Assault Marines are called Lizaflos, for the race of reptilian creatures who attack with long leaps. Devastators are Moblins, for the heavy weapons they carry. Marines mounted on Bikes are Lynels, for the half-horse half-man creatures with the heads of lions, who were both skilled swordsmen and breathed fire from their maws. Scouts are known as Skullkids, for the little forest children of the same name; both were possesed with a penchant for stealth and a love of mischief, be it mundane, or, in the scouts case, of a strategic verity.

Terminators with standard equipment are known as Darknuts, for the heavy armor and weapons they carry. Assault Terminators are named Ironknuckles, for the more direct, brutal approach they take in combat. All veterans are given the Stalfos Sigil, a white skull painted on the left shoulder; just as the stalfos, a skeletal warrior sprit, will collect its bones and rise again and again to fight its foes, so too are the heroes of the chapter immortal in their deeds. The Sigil is a reminder to every Knight that sees it of the proud history they uphold as an Astartes, and as a Hylian Knight.

The Chaplains are called Sages, in reference to the legendary Seven Sages, who would appear time again, in many forms, to lend help and wisdom to the heroes of Hyrule. There are no Librarians in the Hylian Knights; long ago, some time before the Knights' advent as a chapter of Adeptus Astartes, was an even called the Wizzrobe Rebellion, where an ancient cult of psykers almost succeeded in sacraficing the planet to Chaos. Since the suppression of the Rebellion, the Psyker mutation has been absent on Hyrule.

The Chapter Master of the Hylian Knights has a tradition to paint his armor green as the forests of Hyrule, and take the name Link, for the most legendary of all Hylian heroes.

I think Black Templars would be the best bet.

They are focused on melee but don't have Jump Packs everywhere. Melee Terminators, Melee everything, Big on Heraldry...

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I'm not sure what heraldry is, but I'll take a look at the codex when I get the chance.

Basically a coat of arms for a person. There's a ton of rules for how colours and patterns can be combined. Brettonian knights are big on them.

Ah, derp. Knew that. I thought he was talking about a rule in the BT Codex, that somehow would have fit with the whole Hylian Knights thing.

Speaking of Coats, PAINTSCHEME! Sorry I didn't get it to you sooner. Had a little SNAFU with the URL.
