The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

I have had a rather spiffy idea: Blood Bowl, but in the 40K universe.

Like Blood Bowl it would be very silly and a departure from the normal Grimdark nature of 40K. The basic storyline could be that the Chaos gods decided that it would be a good idea to have a bit of a joke and to drag warriors from throughout the timestream and make them play a very silly game. All the races would be supported, and yes, there would be cheerleaders, even for the Tyranids.

Do you think it would work?

I literally had the exact same Idea last Saturday night and was starting to make up team rosters, alternatively keep the rules and rosters and transpose (Guard as Humans, Marines as Chaos, eldar as Elves etc)

lol, maybe the Guard would be able to spam linemen or something

Seeing a squad of veterens swoop in in a Vendetta, secure the area, deliver that math assignment, and extract within 2 minutes would be freaking sweet.

well there is no cap apart from team size on linemen (16)

It might be fun to do thr conversions. The armies do lend themselves well to teams, with undead being Necrons. Space Wolves obviously being the Norse.

If you do this, please post a few pics of the teams. It would be a fun change from the traditional teams.

I was thinking that 40k needed a different sport to match the heavy technology feel. 40k kart racing might be more appropriate XD

Edit: Actually that would be a pretty killer Twisted Metal meets Mario Kart sort of thing.

Loving the kart racing idea
what about bike racing?

most of the races already have bikes!

I've had this idea myself, and heard it from others as well.

All it really boils down to is coming up with Roster lists for each race that aren't completely broken.

I would start with Imperial Guard, using the Human Team Rules and work up from there.

I've had this idea for a while. The slant I put on it was that a number of armies were fighting a drawn out war on a space hulk. When supplies and ammo ran out, they agreed to a sporting match to end the conflict. The game was later codified by a radical Inquisitor and began to replace lesser forms of conflict. In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only football.

My approach was to just make teams for each army and keep the rules, although the game alternates between stadiums and a space hulk version of Dungeon Bowl.

Aside from football armored Space Marines, Dark Eldar who strike me as loving agressive football, and Orks being Orks, I am very amused by the idea of apothecaries, wizards (psykers), and cheerleaders.

IMO it's perfectly well suited for either Necromunda-esqua humans or Gorkamorka Orks. Once you get space marines playing, it gets a bit... well... silly.

I disagree. Bloodbowl is a game best played informally. It is a beer and pretzels game to use the old Games Workshop terminology. It is not meant to be taken seriously or meant to be all that balanced. It is just a fun game to play amongst friends and to have a good time with. The teams are unbalanced and there are many players who enjoy playing teams that seem designed to lose, such as halflings. But it is not really about winning as much as it is about how much fun you have.

I like the list you have there Hlaine.

I think the Broadside should probably just be a Crisis Suit. Heavy Weapons are what make it a broadside. I also think it's probably a bit underocsted. It has all the Pluses of being a Big Guy with zero drawbacks, and it costs less than an Ogre.

A lot of those teams look overpowered when compared against normal BB teams. No one who has a Str 4 or higher should start with block, and no one with str 5 should have access to General Skill on non-doubles.

Adding things from 40k is something that Blood Bowl players have been wanting to do for a while.'

But it is rough to pull it off, really. Most of them look redundant (Eldar, Squats, Orks, and IG) so you really need to concentrate on the teams that add a lot to the game.

Adding Tyranids could be cool. Genestealers with extra arms and razor sharp claws, alongside termigaunts or some such. I guess they could look a lot like Lizardmen, and add in a Carnifex or lictor as a big guy.

Marines look like they'd be trouble. Teams with linemen who cost 100k aren't really functional. I think adding them as blockers to an all comers human team would work. Marines could look like Chaos Warrior

While a bit off topic for this thread, I totally think a 40K bike racing game would be fun.

TBH I designed the rosters not to go against the original stuff but only against each other,

I keep reading this thread, while at work, and never getting to sit down and compare it to the established teams at home. While it may still be in a rough form, this is an incredibely good start.

Like Hlaine, I assumed these lists were to be used against each other.

I have a few friends who are HUGE Bloodbowl fans and play 40K as well. This summer I hope to give these rules a whirl with them.

Would'nt it just be alot easyer to use original BB team rosters with 40k models / names? would make for a nice quick "upgrade" per sae

Wood Elf / Bel-tan Eldar

Lineman / Guardian
Catchers / Warp Spyders
Throwers / Striking scorpions
Wardancers / Harlquins
Treeman / Wraithlord

For fully customizing it would be fun to see a imperial guard with a chainsaw

Mainly found in the LOTR section.....

Mantic are bringing out some rules for a space football game called Dreadball. I don't know if the rules will be quite the 40k Blood Bowl mentioned here, but it could be interesting if done well.

Sisters of Battle models already come with the perfect poses for Bloodbowl, all you need to do is remove their guns.

You have the Sister Superiors with the "pointing" pose for Throwers (see my avatar).
The regular front-facing Sister Superiors for Catchers
Seraphim Blitzers
Hospitaller Kicker
Repentia Linewomen

Repentia Mistress Referee
Sister Dialogus Cheerleaders

Avoid the regular Sister models though, getting the weapons off them would be a bit tough.
