I'm wanting to do a conversion using some Chaos Warriors on 20mm bases. However, the models are just beasts and don't fit all to well. I've tried shoulder-to-shoulder and it may work if I trim down the capes a little bit. I could also go staggered, which may require trimming too.

So my question is - do they look too crowded? I could use 40mm bases interspersed but that makes playability a little hard (from experience with regimental bases).

Maybe you should rethink your conversion idea, whatever it is.

Using them you might run into some rule related difficulties as they have larger bases for game related reasons I'm sure.

Rather than a 'conversion', what are you trying to do? If you are stuck with trying to cram them onto 20s, you might want to look into 40mm monster bases or 20x80 regimental bases. Those are still going to be super-tight, but you will have a bit more flexibility to make them look less awkward.

They're going to be counts-as for a cool coversion, no shields, for a 20mm troop type. Just seeing if I could swing it or if they look too jumbled.
