Hi guys, I've put together a 500pt Space Wolves army and was wondering what you thought of my list, what you guys have come up against/play at the 500pt level and what you'd recommend.

Rune Priest with Living Lightning and Jaws of the World Wolf 100pts

5x Wolf Scouts 75pts

9x Grey Hunters with meltagun in Drop Pod 175pts

10x Blood Claws 150pts

500pts

Assuming the rune priest is to lead the grey hunters. Give him runic armor for a 2+ save. Personally, I would drop a few models out of the grey hunter or blood claw pack and spend those points on upgrades. Wolf Scouts are a lot more annoying with a power weapon or a meltagun, depending on their role. As a space wolf player, you hurt for heavy weapons, but at 500 pts I doubt you'd see many anyway. That being said, you might consider that a rhino can bring a hunter killer missile to the party. At 10 points, a wolf standard for your grey hunters is a must. That ability to reroll all 1's is huge. Your blood claws are strictly vanilla and without a character to lead them they may get hung up with their BS of 3. special weapon for them might be nice.

I would drop 2 grey hunters and two blood claws= 60 points

power weapon for scouts-15 points
wolf standard for grey hunters- 10 points
runic armor for rune priest-20
power weapon for blood claws-15
give a flamer to the blood claws for free

Thanks for the help, what you've said makes a lot of sense. One question - what would you say about swapping the scouts power weapon for mark of the Wulfen?

Also would it be better to take terminator armour instead of runic armour for my rune priest because the invulnerable save applies to more than just psychic attacks?

To be honest I'd probably swap the Blood Claws with a Melta Gun out for Grey Hunters with a Melta Gun. It won't cost you any more points until you add in the wolf standard but you are more likely to hit with that Melta Gun and not everything is going to hit you on a 3+ in CC. Added to that, you get a Boltgun and don't have to charge things that are within 6" range.

I'm not sure on the Terminator thing, I think that it's more a case of where will you find the points. If you bury him in with a squad then he should be ok anyway until you get into CC.

According to an article I read a while back mark of the wulfen vs a power weapon is statiscally a situational thing. the power weapon is better suited vs targets with better armor but mark of the wulfen can be explosive against enemies with poor armor. I personally havent use mark of the wulfen much because I tend to play against space marine armies.

About the runepriest: Rampage is probably right about the terminator armor.
