Hi, think this is in the right forum area?
Basically wondering if anyone knows whether Baal Prime or Baal Secundus has some form of pdf/militia? Looked on most of the wikis and can't find a mention of one, and the fact that Dante requests aid off all the successor chapters without mention of one suggests not?
However after reading Battle of the Fang where the SW have a militia, it seems unlikely that the Blood Angels who are an under strength chapter wouldn't have some form of assistance force?

TL;DR would the Blood Angels have support from some form of militia?

Presumably they would, as for a lack of mention, most of the time they would just sit around training, and thus no one would ever need to mentiion them. UM and SW both have some form of PDF.

It's actually fairly doubtful that Baal Primus or Secundus would have PDFs/Militias.

Baal itself might.

It's also worth noting that Ultramar having a PDF has more to do with the fact that the Ultramarines recruit primarily from a heavily populated world, which is purposely kept at (or above) the same level of technological advancement as the most advanced of the Imperium's worlds.
Recruits, for the most part in the idea of other Chapters, tend to come from Deathworlds or other areas where life is pretty dang hard.

The Space Wolves, also, do not actually have a PDF on Fenris. They have Serfs who are trained, essentially, as armsmen and guard The Fang.

With the Ork invasion of Baal, the BA took to space and 4 companies were stationed on Prime and Secundes.
After they beated the Orks, the ship with the warboss crashed on Baal, who, with the survivng orks that landed with him, assaulted the chapter monastery. There were no defences on the planet, but the dreadnoughts did the job.
So, saying from that, they have no defence force, save for the BA themselves. Also, the people living there are strong peeps, so they are quite a fight too, as Prime and Secundes are still populated with mutants, and Baal does have no inhabitants save for the BA.

Thanks for all this information, it's really helpful. I'm tempted to make an Imperial Guard based army but to be a force alongside my Blood Angels and just trying to find out if there's fluff to support that.

And yeah Kanluwen that's kind of what I meant, like any equivalent of the Thralls that the Space Wolves have?

So do you guys think it would be fluffy to make a Blood Angels Imperial guard support type thing? Like have the main tribe (the Blood I think they're called?) armed in an Imperial manner?
I know technically I can do what I want but I kind of like having a backstory to my armies

Pretty much every Chapter has mortal followers who perform the day to day upkeep of the Chapters' facilities.

Whether or not they might be trained for combat is something completely different.

I personally would say that it wouldn't really be fluffy for such a thing to exist, but you could work up some fluff for an Imperial Guard army which has fought alongside the Blood Angels.

I don't think they would have a pdf, because all the residents of the moons are nomads who live in a pseudo road warrior esk post apoc world.

It would be completely against fluff to have IG regiments stationed on a Space Marine chapter world, due to the fact that the IG are controlled by the admin and not Space Marines (this is one of the main no go things created to stop a second Horus Heresy) and as Space Marines do not like outside influence in their affairs, especially home worlds, they would not allow it. (yes the Ultramarines raise IG units but this cannot be used as support for the idea as once the regiments are raised and shipped off they are no longer under the Ultramarines' control. The Ultramarines also hold a unique position in 40k fluff as they control a very prospurose sub-empire which is only really allowed due to the fact that they are a first founding chapter)

All chapters with a home world will had a stationed force for the defence of its assets, this however will not be a classical PDF (as they again come under the control of the admin), they will be made up of thralls, serfs, servitors, new recruits and marines currently in the fortress. They will not be made up of the planets general population due to the fact that in most cases they will have no idea how to use a lasgun or what aliens are. They are also a very precious resource for the chapter that they would not want to waste.

Fluff wise it would be perfectly reasonable to represent a fortress guard force made up of serfs and servitors but it would be more fitting to use the GK codex using the henchmen as troops instead of using the IG codex.

However it would also be fluffy to have an IG regiment who have been fighting a campiagn alongside the Blood Angels which have adopted colours/livery/tattoos and wargear gifts from the Blood Angel force.

Baal would have an ad hoc militia if the planet was attacked, but they aren't like the Ultramar Auxilia which is well-trained, up to IG standards, and even has its own fleet.

Well cheers for all the ideas/debate.

I guessed it wouldn't be like an imperial guard regiment but didn't know like the format of such a kind of force.

I think I'll just take bluntmans idea and have an ig regiment from a neighbouring system that has taken on the colours/livery of the blood angels. But thanks again everyone!

I would do a regiment with some BA-like colours, and place them together in a military campaign for a sector.

Every Planet has a PDF , now the Quality of that PDF has a drastic scale , planets being fortress worlds ( such as Cadia) have incrediably good PDF ( Cadias are claimed to be the best in the Imperium ) but when you have planets in the back end of nowhere it's not going to be nearly as well equip . In the Event of a Plantary invasion where a Space Marine Chapter had to ask for help it is extremely likly that all major PDF elements had been anhlllated by the invaders

Not every planet does...

Weather There is a PDF or not relies on weather the chapter has direct control of the planet or not. If the chapter just recruits from the world and has its fortress monastery on it but a planetary government is separate from the chapter it is very likely that there is indeed a PDF, assuming the world in question is not a feral or feudal world.

A chapter world (a world with a space marine chapter fortress monestry) that has a seperate planetary goverment would probablyveither never happen or effects a very small number of chapters. As for most a chapter world is a soveraign right to a chapter and is under their total command.

Some worlds like the world the Crimson Consoles (before they where destroyed) where based on are run by a separate imperial administration. The chapter is simply based on these worlds and do not directly run them. In the case of the Blood Angles who are of legion origin it is unlikely this is the case.

As I already said the situation you described only covers a few chapters.
