hi.

I have been painting warhammer 40k for around a year now. i have played a few battles locally with friends but have never played in any serious tournements due to the fact my army is never finished to a certain standard i would like. Anyway. id like to share my idea with everyone and just get peoples opinions on my objectives. i fear it may be difficult for people to visualise what i am trying to achieve, so only experienced 40kers please comment. i am going to attach the picture to help peoples imaginations.

Im planning to convert a Dread knight, into a Decimater/dreadnaught, which has abbadon mounted on the frount,( replacing the standard model which is mounted) also equipting it with weapons relating it to the abbadon style weapons ie. deamon sword/ lightning claw with gun attached. also tarting up the whole model to make it feel a bit more chaotic.... now... this all seems straight forward in theory..... but, what rules i can use for it?

Questions are

1. how would i use this model in conjunction with my force organisation chart?
2.Are people going to get funny with me if i ever go to a serious tournement if i wish to use this amongst my army?
3.if not, on the forgeworld website it has an unoffical stats page for the decimator, listing it as a eliteist choice. shall i print this off and take that to a tournement as to use for stats? or just use the standard dreadnaught stats out of the chaos codex.
4.Where can i source the lightning claw themed weapon to fit a model of such size?

thanks for your time in reading this i hope you havent lost interest and you will give me somee usefull tips folks.

Tournaments usually are only concerned with three things regarding kitbashed models:

1) The model uses rules exactly from your codex.
2) The model is approximately the same size/shape and uses the same base as the model you are replacing.
3) The model adequately represents the required wargear and is painted to a minimum standard.

If you satisfy all these requirements, it's rare that any tournament would make a stink about your Abbadon-Knight. With that, answers to your questions are as follows:

1) Provided you are using it as a Dreadnought you'll be fine. It fits whichever FOC it normally would.
2) If you satisfy the three requirements above, you'll be fine.
3) The tournament MAY let you use the decimator rules. If so, great, but absolutely make sure you print off the rules from Forgeworld for reference. If not, you will have to use it as a Dreadnought. (It is very likely that you will NOT be able to use the Decimator rules)
4) Furioso claws? The Decimator claw from Forgeworld? Something from a 3rd party company like Puppetswar?

Seems like it could be a very fun (if expensive) conversion! Good luck!

I would reccomend Furioso claws, as the Decimator claws would be huge. Maybe use it as a Decimator in friendlies and a Defiler in tournaments?

ok ill have a look for furioso claws, im just in the process of scouting ebay. there is a dread night brand new for £29. once ive got that and been able to judge the size then i can compare it to one of the choices i have on offer in regards to having a similar sized unit i.e defiler dreadnaught... but a defiler? i didnt think of listing it as that. would people not get funny with that as it does not resembele a defiler in the slightest?

Well, it doesn't look much like a Dread/Decimator either...

The 'Rule of Cool' applies! So long as it's on the same size base (for the purposes of assault determinations) and it's approximately the same height (for TLoS determinations) people don't usually have too much of a problem.

If it looks awesome, then they're even less likely to mind if you bend the rules a little
