Hello good people,
Anyone had any experience with using Secret Weapon, MIG, or Tamiya pigments for weathering? If anyone has used these, which do you prefer? I heard MIG quality has gone down in the last few months. I have never used any of these so hoping someone here can help. Looking for best quality.
Thanks.

I use Vallejo Pigments and never had any issues with them. From what I gather, the Secret Weapons ones come in more unusual colors, but I can't say what the quality is.

I use Vallejo and Secert Weapon and I love both of them. I have not used the others you listed, so I cannot speak for them.

mig is a high quality pigment, its been around for ages. Honestly I am still using a set of pigments I got from a train store, they were a no name brand for a great price.

MIG pigments are still more or less the same. Their new products isn't (apparently, if you follow the discussions on forums where they discuss the proper shades of khaki) as good as new products was when Mig Jemenez was in the company.
MIG pigments are said to be more finely ground than the competition. I can't really tell if that gives a benefit when using them though. People seem to get really good results with the Vallejo/ForgeWorld/etc pigments even though their "inferior" quality.
I haven't used the Vallejo pigments yet. I used a bunch of the ForgeWorld ones and didn't like them, so I went back to MIG and haven't really looked back since then.
YMMV etc.

I have used my own ground from chalk pastels, MIG, Tamyia & soot from FW.
Don't like the Tamyia ones as they're basically make-up cakes.
Prefer the powders & am very pleased with the MIG ones.
The FW soot is comparable.
Then again I've found the ones I've ground myself perfectly acceptable.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |
