Hey guys my group has a problem understanding what forest terrain does. We aren't using the special rules terrain but can't seem to find any rules for a just plain forest. We know that cavalry, chariots treat it as dangerous when marching charging etc.. and a unit with Fly takes a test when entering or ending but what happens to just plain old infantry models? I can't seem to find anything for it so is it just open ground that does nothing?

pg 119 shows what even non "magical" forests do to infantry. Forests and Shooting, Forests and Close Combat are the sections you seek.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

So essentially forests dont effect infantry at all for movement purposes, such as marching charging etc.. Are we suppose to play with the special terrain uses to make the game work because I don't get why infantry blocks would get a free pass in this situation.

If they have their majority in the terrain, they cannot be steadfast- potentially a pretty big deal. I've seen games swing on that rule.

Yea I read that part but thats something that can be avoided pretty easily (IMO) I just don't understand why theres no penalty for moving through them.

There isn't a penelty because 7th edition was stupid with forests limiting your movement.
They did kinda overcompensate but they really don't need to impede your movement all that much.
Think of the forests as more a thin stand of trees then a dense forest. You can move through them without too much penelty but the brush does mess up your ranks.

Seriously. For dwarf infantry in 7th, forests might as well have been impassible.

Not only that, but IIRC skirmishing units become steadfast in a forest. So things like Gutter Runners, Dryads, Glade Guard Scouts, etc. etc. actually benefit from being in normal forests.

Technically they are stubborn, not steadfast.

And by reading the stubborn USR i find it says: the unit is allways steadfast.
