It has been a while since I've done any hobby work or played any games. I kind of took a break from it because I couldn't really work on my hobby with my cats grabbing stuff, and I didn't really have any armies I want to play with.

I don't know what it was but a month ago I suddenly got the urge to build some Circle Orboros models so I could have something to play with on Friday nights or whenever a game was available. I think part of it was I miss Kromac and the warpwolf models (Feral and Pureblood). I used to have a bunch of Circle Orboros stuff but eventually sold/traded it out for other things.

I made a couple huge orders to The Warstore and picked up a kit or two from my local game shop to get the ball rolling. I felt this was kind of like a 'rebirth' into modeling so aside from Circle Orboros stuff, I went hog wild and ordered some new tools and accessories. I thought I'd give some of Privateer Press' Formula P3 stuff a try. I've used their paints before but not much of their tools. I bought new clippers, a pin vise, extra rods, and the wet palette. I also ordered some Galeforce 9 stuff because I'm used to their stuff. The Galeforce 9 stuff I bought consisted of some glue, accelerant, and green stuff. Here's what I bought in regards to models:

Kromac, the Ravenous
The Circle Orboros Warpack
The old metal Warpwolf
The new plastic warpwolf
the old Pureblood Warpwolf
The upgrade bits for Ghetorix
Tharn Ravagers
Warpborn Skinwalkers
A Tharn Ravager Whitemane
A Tharn Ravager Chieftain
Shifting Stones
Gallows Grove

Kromac was the first thing in the cart... I had no questions about that. The warpack I got partly for the Feral Warpwolf and partly for nostalgia... this was one of the first set of minis I bought ever. I picked up an old extra metal warpwolf model because I like the sculpt, I like running two warpwolfs sometimes, and I like metal. The new plastic warpwolf kit I bought to use with the upgrade bits to make Ghetorix who I think looks pretty dang cool with his axe. The old Pureblood Warpwolf model is one of my favorite sculpts so that was a definite purchase. Tharn Ravagers are some of my favorite models to build and paint...I had to include some. The Whitemane and Chieftan are there to help out my Ravagers plus they look pretty cool. The Warpborn Skinwalkers I added because they reminded me of the Feral Warpwolf and I like their sculpts. The Shifting Stones are a point filler as well as something to play for fun... I love 'shifting' beasts up the field. The Gallows Grove started out as point filler but after reading up on them they sound pretty cool to try to use plus the sculpt isn't bad. Aside from the Circle Models and tools I made a couple of other purchases: the Circle Orboros card deck, the Circle Orboros Forcebook, the Dominion expansion book, and Circle Orboros counters.

Monday evening I decided to start work on the models since my cats are away visiting with my folks. I cleaned up the bits for Kromac's two forms and the two Feral Warpwolfs. The flash and vents weren't too bad with the models I purchased. It didn't take me long to get them prepped. I then rinsed them in some water.

Wednesday evening I put the models together. First I did Kromac's beast form then his human form. After that I put together the Feral Warpwolfs at the same time. It was soooo fun to put the spikes on and see the finished products.

Thursday evening I went nuts with construction. The first thing I built was the Pureblood Warpwolf. I originally planned to keep my work to just that but I saw I had plenty of time left in the evening so I thought to start work on Ghetorix. Surely, that'll take some effort. It ought to take the rest of my evening right? No. The plastic Warpwolf bits were a snap to clean and put together. The upgrade bits to make Ghetorix weren't too bad either. Everything fit perfectly. I felt I was on a role. I decided to get the shifting stones out of the way. It was just sticking one piece to a base three times. No problems. What next? I decided to give the Tharn Ravager Chieftan and Whitemane a try. As elaborate as the Chieftan looks it wasn't too bad to put him together. The Whitemane was even easier; body to base...arms to body... done. I was thinking that maybe that was good. I'm done for the evening. I check the clock and see that I've got enough time before bed to get a couple more models out of the way, so I put together the Tharn Ravagers that came in blisters. In total, nine models put together. I'm way ahead of where I thought I would be with the construction of my Circle Orboros stuff.

Friday evening I broke in some of my models playing at Cal Poly. I ran a 35 point list of Kromac, Ghetorix, a Pureblood, and 2 Warpwolfs. Yup. Just a warlock and heavies. I mostly did it because I didn't have anything else built plus I wanted to try out Ghetorix. I had fun. Kromac obliterated a 'jack and large part of a unit of those rhulic guys with the hammers. My heavies mostly got stuck in tarpits. Too many infantry models to fight. They killed plenty sure but the eventually got taken down by a lot of gun fire from gunmages and a couple 'jacks. Like I said, I had fun... I got to kill stuff.

Saturday evening I finished construction of the rest of my Circle models. This included a minimum unit of Ravagers, a full unit of Warpborn Skinwalkers, and the Gallows Grove. I ran to a little trouble with the Ravagers. One of the sculpts was just like the earlier Ravagers I worked on but for some reason I was having trouble with the arms. I ended up getting a LOT of glue on my fingers. The skinwalkers weren't too bad. I like the models... they really feel their worth in money. They weren't too bad to put together. Unfortunately one of the models' weapons came out of the box broken but I managed to fix it. A couple other weapons needed to be bent into shape as well. The Gallows Grove was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. It looks so intricate and fragile but basically you're putting branches to a trunk... and maybe adding some hanging bones here or there. After finishing up the models, I was able to prepare 2 foam trays to transport everything.

Today, after work, I got started on priming some of the models. I'm using Army Painter Matte Black Primer and it seems to work just great. Reminds me a little bit of the GW Chaos Black spray. I'm not losing any detail. The models I primed today were Kromac's two forms (human and beast), Ghetorix, the Pureblood Warpwolf, both of the Feral Warpwolfs, the Tharn Ravager Chieftan, and the Galllows Grove. I was able to find my old Circle Orboros dice tin. It still had the dice, Mk I cards, counters, and some beads. I'm going to reuse everything but the cards and counters. The cards are, of course, out of date and the counters I'm replacing with the Privateer Press counters.

I got a lot more done this week than I thought I would. I'll be able to start painting a lot sooner than planned. I just have to check on my paints.

I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.

I just have to check the primer on half of the models and I should be ready to start tonight. Kromac is going to be the first thing I paint.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here is everything primed. I'm getting my work space ready for painting. For colors I'm going to use some of the ones provided in the P3 Circle Orboros Colors boxed set as well as some other P3 paints. I've collected some of my better brushes together and will be using those as well as another Kolinsky brush I bought a while ago but just haven't opened. For my palette I'm going to give the P3 Wet Palette a shot. I thought I'd have time to paint tonight but some errands ended up taking most of my free time today. Hopefully, I can get started painting within the next day or two.

I've changed my plans a bit as far as how I'm going to go about painting my models. I had planned to start with one model/unit at a time starting with Kromac then moving on to the Warbeasts. I've, instead, decided to go for a bigger group of models. I decided to start with Kromac's beast form, the Tharn Ravager Whitemane, the Tharn Ravager Chieftain, the Tharn Ravager Unit, and the Warpborn Skinwalker Unit.

Yesterday, I started the painting. I started with painting flesh with P3 Beast Hide. After an initial layer I lightened the Beast Hide with P3 'Jack Bone and applied a highlight layer of that. Then I added more 'Jack Bone to the mixture and applied a highlight layer of that. After the flesh I painted the cloaks on Kromac and the Ravager models. I started with a layer of P3 Thornwood Green. I added a bit of P3 'Jack Bone to the Thornwood Green and applied a highlight layer of that. I added a little more 'Jack Bone to the mixture and applied a highlight layer of that. The last bit I did yesterday was give leather parts some P3 Umbral Umber.

Today, I was able to get even more done. I started off by applying highlights of P3 Bloodtracker Brown to the leather parts that I started the yesterday. After that I applied P3 Ironhull Grey to some of the hair, armor parts, and stone decorations. I then highlighted the hair with some P3 Bastion Grey. I left alone the armor parts and the decorations that I had painted with the Ironhull Grey. After the grey parts I applied P3 'Jack Bone to the bone decorations, nails, and the Tharn Ravager Whitemane's hair. I then applied a layer of P3 Menoth White Highlight to those parts except for the Whitemane's hair... I was done with that. Next I applied some P3 Skorne Red to Kromac's hair, a cloak at his back, and the cloak on the Tharn Ravager Chieftain. For the last color of the night I used P3 Gnarls Green on the Warpborn Skinwalkers' armor and Kromac's weapons.

Here's what I got done yesterday.

Here's where I ended up tonight.

I finished up the painting for the models I've been working on this week. What was left to be painted were the metallic parts like blades and armor as well as some human flesh parts on Kromac and the Tharn Ravager Unit Leader (severed limbs). I started with P3 Pig Iron and applied it to the weapons and some of the armor. Next I did some highlights with P3 Quick Silver. Next I used P3 Rhulic Gold on Kromac's weapons, the Whitemane's weapon, the Chieftain's weapon, and the Warpborn Skinwalker Unit weapons. For the Warpborn Skinwalker Unit's armor trim I used P3 Brass Balls. For the severed limbs attached to Kromac and the Tharn Ravager Unit Leader, I started with a layer of P3 Khardic Flesh and the highlighted with P3 Midlund Flesh.

Done with painting; just needs to be based and sealed.

I started on the warbeasts. Monday I was able to paint the fur on Ghetorix, the Feral Warpwolfs, and the Pureblood Warpwolf. Ghetorix I based with P3 Ironhull Grey and highlighted with P3 Bastion Grey and a mix of P3 Bastion Grey and P3 'Jack Bone. For the Feral Warpwolfs I basecoated with P3 Umbral Umber then highlighted with P3 Battlefield Brown and P3 Bloodtracker Brown. The Pureblood Warpwolf's fur isn't done yet. I only had time to Basecoat with P3 'Jack Bone.

I finished painting the warbeasts and Kromac's human form.

Wednesday afternoon, after lunch, I finished off Ghetorix, the Pureblood Warpwolf, and the Feral Warpwolfs. For the Pureblood's fur I highlighted with P3 Menoth White Base and then P3 Menoth White Highlight. For the leather parts of the warbeasts I used a base of P3 Umbral Umber, and highlights of P3 Battlefield Brown and P3 Bloodtracker Brown. For the armor, I started with a coat of P3 Gnarls Green and went over the designs with P3 Brass Balls, and some parts of the armor received a touch of P3 Rhulic Gold. For the claws and teeth I used a base of P3 'Jack Bone then highlights of P3 Menoth White Base and P3 Menoth White Highlight. For the eyes I dabbed on some P3 Gnarls Green.

Thursday evening, I got to work on Kromac's human form. I started with the flesh, then worked on the cloaks and hair, then the armor, then the bone decorations, then the weapons. For the flesh I used a base of P3 Khardic Flesh with a highlight of P3 Midlund Flesh. The larger cloak had a base of P3 Thornwood Green highlighted with mixtures of the Thornwood Green with P3 'Jack Bone. The smaller back cloak is done in Skorne Red. The hair was done using P3 Skorne Red as the base with P3 Bloodstone for highlights. For the leather, armor, and axe handles I used a base of P3 Umbral Umber highlighted in spots with P3 Bloodtracker Brown. For some of the stone decorations and parts of the armor I used P3 Ironhull Grey. The Bone decorations were done with a base of P3 'Jack Bone highlighted by P3 Menoth White Base and P3 Menoth White Highlight. For the weapons' heads I started with a layer of P3 Gnarls Green then brushed on some P3 Brass Balls. For the blades and some pieces on the handles, I used a base of P3 Pig Iron with a highlight of P3 Quick Silver.

Nice, fast progress so far! A lot of the pics are in shadow, though... would be better to have a little more light in many of the pics (or more likely, just another source of light so that part of the model isn't blocked from the light).

Yeah... I should have taken the time to set up better pictures. I definitely need a better lighting setup or source.

I'm done!

The bases are done and marked... all the models are sealed. For the bases I used GW modeling sand, GW PVA glue, and Galeforce 9 static grass. Before sealing the models I painted the front arcs in P3 Iosan Green.

(Excuse the bad pictures. I really need to improve my camera work.)

I don't think I'm as finished as I thought.

At first I wasn't going to touch them, but I have Kaya Wildeborne and 2 Argus that I could work on. I'll see if I can finish those up in the next couple of days. Then maybe I can say that I'm totally done with my Circle Orboros.

Here is the last of the Circle models I had available. Kaya and two Argus models from the Warpack kit. All my circle is now done. These three took me about 6 hours to paint, base, and seal.
