How exactly do you use chimera's fire points? I understand the rules of them just fine, but that big old turret is right in the way of the firing point. I've always thought the turret gets in the way of line of sight and you'd have to pretty much turn it sideways to get clear shots, but I feel like this may not be what everyone else is doing. Still only playing friendly games with friends so I'm not sure.

Got a big apoc game tomorrow and I just want to know for sure

Yes, the turret can block LOS. But you can angle the Chimera just a little and draw a LOS from the corner of the hatch to the target while still keeping front armor towards the target (if that's what you are trying to do). And yes, all 5 models can choot from that one little corner.

don_mondo has it correct. Just keep in mind LOS when you move your model (or pivot) during the movement phase and you'll be fine.

doesn't the faq say you have use the middle of the hatch as the point to draw the line from?and that the shooters own unit can't block line of sight?

The chimera isn't part of the "shooter's own unit".
Otherwise it would have to embark itself into itself, shoot at the same target and always stay within 2" coherency.

The transport is ALWAYS a separate unit form the transported unit.

No, actually the FAQ does not say anything like this at all.

You can use whatever part of the "Top Hatch" (As described in the Chimera entry) that you want.

What constitutes the "Top Hatch", well that is undefined in the rules.

Just a quick related question - do you guys give cover saves to units who are obscured due to the chimera when the unit fires out of the hatch?

Last year I was in a tournament and my attack bike was parked right next to a chimera (assaulted it last turn) and I suggested that I get cover from the veterans firing out due to the hull of the chimera. My opponent argued that it was not cover because you draw LOS from the chimera's hatch and therefore the chimera cannot obscure LOS.

Yes, you would get cover if the target model(s) were partially obscured by the chimera hull. Not gonna happen so much to the side of the chimera but it would likely be an issue to the front of the chimera.

That's the odd thing - how do you determine LOS? If you do so from a point on the top of the hull, then you cannot see anything lower that the height of the chimera. That means that you cannot shoot at a shorter attack bike.

I was going to say what ryan3740 said. Unless you assume (!) that the models look out of the hatch and measure LOS at least a TINY bit from over the hatch, you will basically see nothing but other tanks, flyers and MCs. Because, drawing LOS completely parallel to the upper hull of a Chimera won't enable you to see the vast majority of infantry models, regardless of distance.

I only play friendly games at the moment, and we agreed that we measure a tiny bit higher than hatch level. RAW, however...

...actually, the Rhino hatch has probably the same problem, then.
