Hello,

I am looking to find a good off the shelf website design program that is easy to use and has SFTP capabilities. And is not expensive.

Does anybody have a good recommendation?

Thanks

Probably work

Odd thing to have in P&M.

What are you wanting to do with this website? Are you actually looking for software to design it, or are you looking for hosting? There's a difference. Think Dreamweaver vs Blogspot.

I paint models for a living and I do have a website. A simple one. I have a hosting service but they have recently changed how they do things and my old web design program is no longer compatible.

I have been looking at web design software at local office supply stores and none of them tell whether they have the ability to use SFTP instead of the old FTP. I am not a computer person and most of the computer lingo used is above me. I liked my old web design program because it used templates and setting things up was simple. But , it does not use SFTP and that is what I am looking for. A simple to use web design program that definately uses SFTP.

Thanks

Webs.com is pretty good, but it sometimes lacks noticeability. Microsoft Expression works well, but I'm not sure if hosting is free.

I guarantee you that I'm not really as smart as the test says:

Gotcha. Okay, well, if I'm understanding then, the good news is that you don't really need to go out and buy anything.

SFTP is basically just a file transfer protocol. If that's what your hosting company wants you to use to upload files to them, then I'd recommend Filezilla.

Basically how this works is you save the files locally on your computer in whatever you're currently using for webdesign, and then you log in to your website with Filezilla and copy them over. It's got a drag and drop interface similar to what you're probably used to in Windows, and it's pretty easy to use.

Cyberduck is pretty awesome since I've started using it. I've moved away from Filezilla as it apparently does not store your server passwords in encrypted form on your computer. I'm paranoid.

Hhonestly, that sounds complex. I am REALLY not a computer person. I used a program called Trellix Web which is ancient by computer standards. It did all I needed. So I am looking for something like that again. I have looked at:

Site Spinner, Serif Webplus, Microsoft Expressions, Avanquest's Web Easy and Xara Web designer, but from the information I found on them , I could not tell if they used SFTP. Most seemed to have the template system I prefer.
I guess I am asking if anybody has experience with these programs and if they know whether any of these programs use SFTP. I already have a hosting and have for a decade. It is that the host has upgraded and I have not.

Thanks for your time and help.

I don't know if any of those really have any system set up to connect via FTP, you usually need a separate program for that, which many are usually free. I sent you a PM about some things.

From a quick search, it looks like Microsoft Expressions has FTP/SFTP functionality.
