Hi Dakka. So, I was reading the Badab war books, and have begun to really look into Carab Culln. Mostly because hes a good CC HQ, but also the fact that he lets squads take Apothecaries as Sergeants. I thought that this would be a pretty good tactic with Codex: Space Marines. Does anyone have any good advice or tactical tips when using these Apothecaries in a Space Marine army?

Yes. I would trade my left foot if my priests COULDN'T BE PICKED OUT OF CC!
And, as far as I know, Apothicaries can still carry meltabombs and powerswords, so all good there.

I don't give my Sgts power fists/combi weapons, so, yes.
Apothecarys are still LD9 in the Codex: Space Marines book.

The Apothecaries are counted as Sergeants, and can be given Veteran Sergeant equipment. And for Feel No Pain, he will earn you back many of the points. So does anyone have any tactics associated with him, or advice?

Get FNP
Shoot Stuff
Win the Game
Really it's just FNP. It's getting another save 80% of the time...you still play as normal. It does nothing for you offensively, just makes you live longer. If you are concentrating on this, you wanna concentrate on your Infantry doing the work. It would obviously be wasted in a mech list. Also realize that you get FNP vs Plasma Guns "Gets Hot!" so don't be as afraid to use them.

Try not to laugh manically as you tell your opponent that your vanilla space marines don't only have a 3+ save, they get a 4+ FNP, too?
I mean, really, they are Sgts. that are FNP. Don't go crazy and charge into bad combats, and treat them like normal squads with the added bonus.

Yes, but you play blood angels. He's talking about codex marines.
I'd personally say no on this one. FNP makes your regular tac squads pretend that they're terminators against small arms and CCWs, which is pretty sweet. However, this comes at the price of a power fist. This means that an army that already bonks against dedicated CC units now bonks even harder against dedicated CC units. Plus, there's a bunch of other times that a fist comes in handy (say, getting chumped by a dread or up against a vehicle wall) that gets lost. SM may not be the best CC army around, but it should at least have the ability to use it when opportunity arises.

Really the only tactic with Apothecaries that I can think of is this:
If your unit is taking saves, always take the saves of the Apothecary last.
The unit only has FnP while he is alive. If you take his save first and he fails, the unit looses FnP and will die a lot quicker. So always roll his dice last.

It's not in the SM codex. It's in the Badab War Imperial Armour supplement.
----------------
On topic, it's pretty darn good for shooty units- your tactical squads and devastators (if you take devs). They don't want to be in combat anyway, and with Combat Tactics you can potentially escape. FNP helps keep your scoring units alive longer, and could be a nice choice for devs if your local environment includes a lot of GK (psycannons) and/or Dark Eldar (splinter cannons).

So does that mean It's a tourney rule or imperial armour sanctioned matches only? And you will need to take that character?

Think of it rather like Pedro.
Pedro replaces Combat Tactics with Stubborn. This Character replaces Combat Tactics with Apothecaries.

Hmm, sounds cool, but I don't have the page in front of me. I don't want to buy a set of books to find one character's rules. If you did then by all means use those rules and I am sure it will be a surprise to most your opponents. If I had a copy of that Character's rules I might run him to. Tactical Squads are cheap and you can get them anywhere on eBay. The Apothecary Arm is a little harder to come by, but magnetize every Sgt. and you have a new army each time you play.

I just recently had a look though the badab war books and saw one combo that would just be fun as hell. Cullin for the apothicaries and use the siege warfare list from the other book, you loose some fast options out of c:sm but can squadron tanks. But you can also buy an upgrade for tacticals to make there normal armor save re-rollable, which combined with fnp will be a pain for anything not ap 1/2. Costs a pretty penny, I think it was 50 points per squad, but for objective games would be killer.

The badab War books have some really awesome Characters and FOCs for SMs. I am just terrified to go through all of the trouble of building the army and then not be able to use it becuas it seems like no one else in the entire world is OK with FW rules. But I was thinking about using vulkan and the captain that makes termies scoring (not as a chapter tactic) in conjunction with a siege vanguard with a redonkulous number of dreadnoughts terminators and siege mantlets. I don't think i'd ever get away with it though. If you do make a counts as red scorps army though please post a battle report. it might actually be interesting.
