Subject: Monstrous cavalry wounds allocation?

I have a silly hopefully simple question. Under the rules for monstrous cavalry it says to use the highest wound characteristic when taking hits. My question lies with Mournfang Cavalry which both the rider and the mount have the same amount of wounds (three).
So in my theoretical case a mournfang rider gets shot by some puny bretonian archers which toughness/wounds profile do I use? Also say the rider takes two wounds and they get shot at again do I use the three wounds for the mount then?

The model has 3 wounds (the highest available) and T4 (rider).

For the record, using the T of the rider regardless of the mount is stupid.
Demigryph Knights. 3 Wounds, 2+ armor, and as tough as a elf...
An orc on foot is harder to wound that a knight riding a fething griffon. Go figure.

Aerethan, a t4 demigryph rider at the current points value would immediately become the most overpowered thing in warhammer.

I'm going to doubt that a 1 point shift in T would suddenly make them the best thing EVAR.
Mournfangs would still be way up there on the WTF scale.

If you completely ignore the 1+ armor save, 6+ parry save, sure. T is just another flavor of save. A 1T unit with a 1+ ward save is still a god.

No parry on *insert creature here*back, unless you have an ironfist.

What makes Demigryphs better than mournfang is that you can put characters in them, opening up all sorts of insane shenanigans with priest prayers, stubborn crowns, runefang grandmasters, and so on. Mournfang are not WTF due to only having a 2+ save and due to their very poor weapon skill and initiative. Griffs aren't out of control either, but another point of toughness would put them there, since you'd be getting a superior mournfang at a discount.

Oh, yah.
As for WS on Mourns, it really doesn't matter that much. Esp when they got 3982389 attacks.
