So I'm still relatively new to the game, but picking things up fast. I still have a hell of a time against Tankovoy (but who doesn't, especially mechanized germans). I've really been struggling to make a list that I like or worked for me. I've really been wanting to abuse the heck out of the Kampfgruppe rules, but can't seem to fit enough AT into a list when I do so. Anywho, I think I've actually found a list I like with the Wiking pzgrens.
I'd love any comments and critiques on the list. I'm a little wary of having trained troops over veteran, but fearless is nice.
HQ
SS-Panzergrenadierkampfgruppe HQ (Wiking) - AT Section w/ 2 schreks, x2 Fausts - 145
Combat Platoons
Gepanzerte SS-Panzergrenadier Platoon (Wiking) - x3 Squads, Faust - 210
Gepanzerte SS-Panzergrenadier Platoon (Wiking) - x3 Squads, Faust - 210
SS-Panzer Platoon (Wiking) - x4 Panzer IV H - 310
Weapons Platoon
Armoured SS-Anti-aircraft Gun Platoon (Wiking) - x3 Sd Kfz 7/1 (Armoured) - 140
Divisional Support
SS-Panzer Platoon (Wiking) - x4 Panzer IV H - 310
Heavy SS-Panzerspäh Platoon (Trained) - x2 Patrols (x2 8-rads each) - 140
SS-Rocket Launcher Battery - x4 NW41 - 125
Heavy SS-Anti-aircraft Gun Platoon (Trained) - x2 8.8cm FlaK36 with extra crew - 160
9 Platoons as the Panzerspäh Patrols operate independently. Only real way to deal with heavy tanks are the 8.8cm guns with 6 AT 13 shots. Another option would be dropping the 88s and the Divisional Panzers for a trio of Panthers (brings the list to 1770) and maybe losing a schreck team or two Fausts (1745/1750 respectively).
Ideas?

I am wrestling with this list as well. Here are some of my thoughts.
I've never been a fan of the 88's. In game just never seems to equal to hype of thier reality press dept.
Also, 5th SS has a decided benefit with thier Danish artilery. You should take advantage of the reduced point costs.
If you dropped the nebs and the 88s, you could get a unit of 3 Hummels. AT5 FP2+ bombardments hitting as vets -will- put the fear even into Churchills and IS-2s. No smoke trails and innate mobilty.
That leaves you 30 points. That is one more faust in each of your infantry platoons and 10 points for another platoon faust or an observer PzIII.

I don't see where you're getting vets for the Hummels. Only option I see is trained. Wespes can get Vet status, though (meh).
Nebs are there mostly for smoke and to cause pinning when needed. I could downgrade to only 3 guns and would be fine, but the smoke trails and reduction to trained from veteran make me wary of only using three.

Look at the front of the SS Special Rules section (188-189 of GW). Since you are build 5th SS you have the option of selecting Danish or Flemmish. The Flemish are fine, but the Dannish ones are really nice if you take one of the arty options....motor, motor heavy, armored, or motor armormed. Basically you roll to hit as if you were vets and not trained. So 3+ instead of 4+. I hastily mentioned Hummels cause that is what I have, but if you have the motorized 15cm guns, you could get a 4 battery of motor heavy for about the same cost.
Smoke is fine and good, but making your opponent pick up models off the table is better.

If you're planning on primarily using Nebelwerfers for smoke, you should probably just take mortars instead. You won't have to worry about smoke trails that way.

Oh! Derp!
I can't believe I missed that.
The Flemish bonus is nice, but with Fearless anyway not a huge bonus. Not too mention if you 100% rely on Stormtrooper without taking into account the chance of failure or potentially being pinned, you're doing something wrong anyway.
Wow....this makes me re-think my arty options a bit. Paying the cost of FT and getting FV out of them for free (even if just for shooting)...oof.
I'm still partial to Nebs....but Hummels do take care of that heavy armor problem.....and they will seriously mess up GtG/Dug-In infantry. It'd be nice to scrounge up the points for the 4th Hummel just to get the additional observer team, though.

Like I said, I just went Hummels cause I have them and I don't have 15cm stands.
But if you are starting at scratch, the points make it easier to get that fourth stand if you do heavy motor over heavy armored.

The 5. SS is a great list. I used a four Wespe battery for my Danish Arty Bat. Works fine. have you thought about bring dropping a platoon of Panzer IVHs and beefing up a platoon with Panthers + Kanone?
