Most of you don't know this, but I just got into 40k after having played Fantasy for a while in my teen years. I played Chaos in Fantasy, so playing the same in 40k felt pretty natural.

So I got the CSM codex and read through it and I sort of got stuck on the Red Corsairs. I mean, Chaos space pirates, what's not to like!?

Next thing I thought of was what squads that would be suitable considering the legion's background. I know it's not really that important, but I like fluff!

Anyway, I'm currently thinking along the lines of "boarding parties" and heavy support fire, so I reckon at least two Raptor squads and one Havoc Squad, along with two regular CSM squads, some seriously beefed up Termies and an HQ. I know Huron has his own biker gang in the fluff but so far my bikes are the first thing to die in every game, so I might scrap the idea of bikes altogether (or just get better at using them).

Seeing as they are ship-based fighters I reckon they don't really use tanks that much, even when deployed onto planets. What do you guys think?

If only there were chaincutlasses, that would be perfect! I really like the pirate aspect of it and feel like emphasizing on that.

Take a look at the IA 9 and 10 books, the Badab War. This is the Astral Claws fighting against the Imperium before they fully turned to chaos.

IA 9 has the Tyrants Legion - Huron's standing army during the war. They would have lost most if not all of their human conscript units but some like the specialist retaliator squads might be a good idea fluff wise. A vivisection apothocary squad would always be fun just to model up even if you can't normally use it.
