A tough battle...
Keith Judd -- also known as Inmate No. 11593-051 -- made a decent showing against President Obama in the West Virginia Democratic primary Tuesday night.

The inmate, currently serving a 210-month sentence for extortion at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana, Texas, not only managed to get on the West Virginia primary ballot, he also managed to win nearly 70,000 votes. That means Judd carried 41 percent of the vote in the Democratic presidential primary, while Mr. Obama took 59 percent.

If 40% of your own party voters aren't going to support you over an out-of-state incarcerated felon, what chance do you have in the general election?

Is it time for the DNC to start looking for another candidate for the November election? There's still time...

Electoral math still has Pres. Obama leading against Romney, though neither have 270. The big battleground states will probably be, shockingly, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida. His weakness isn't that he has already lost, but that Romney actually has a chance at winning. It will be a close race.

Clearly this convicted felon is now a lock for the nomination, as he bested Obama's performance in the 2008 West Virginia primary by 15 points. And, as well all know, West Virginia is truly a bastion of Democratic support, and a must win for any Presidential hopeful.

Ooh, 5 whole presidential electoral votes. Democrats might as well pack up right now.

West Virginia also has a semi-open primary. So between the fact that a primary with an incumbent often has a lower turnout, and the real possibility of an organized drive to have non- democrats vote against Pres Obama, I am not that impressed.

I actually read a similar article last night; and it turns out that while convicted felons cannot vote for politicians, they can generally still be politicians. Obviously your mileage my vary depending on state law and what level of government you're entering; but for example, there is nothing stopping a convicted felon from becoming a US president.

What consecutive posts will extrapolate from my previous sentence I can only imagine.

That politicians are criminals?

I thought it was posted for humor: I laughed.
Mission Accomplished.

Of course the chances of winning an election as a convicted felon are slim to none.

Yeah, but social stigma is the only real impediment, there generally aren't many legal obstacles, right? It can, and has, happened.

A guy was once elected to congress from prison, even. But sure, it's not a normal thing.
