Staying on target.....

Ok so my impulse got the better of me and I have picked up a few bargains off ebay. I love the look and the style of the elves of the last alliance and so I am making an army. Any tips of how to play them and how the characters fair in your opinion? All I know now is MAX BOWS!!

This does mean that all my elves are in heavy armour btw.

Recently, I ran:

Elladan, Ellrohir,

An Ent (my heavy hitter, though an eagle would suffice),

A banner right behind the combat (making the above 3 even deadlier!),

And the rest with infanty, max bows.

The Uruk-Hai cried.

Only named heroes I will be running are Elrond and Gil-Galad, anyone had any luck with them? Or experience even?

Sounds nasty Dr.What

I've had experience against them 2 and they're deadly! Terror really helps them to not be swarmed and elronds power can knock everyone around him to the ground! Trapped fighters, yes please!

Not much on Elrond, but seeing Gil Galad in the opponent's force tends to scare me...

I find that Elrond is overpriced (just an opinion), and since his sons have they same cost (combined), the 6 attack output is quite helpful.

Cheers for the feedback guys, I think in larger games I will field both but I see what you mean Dr.What, for cheaper they could be better, may have to bend the theme at some point Gil-Galad is the one I really wanna use, shield orcs die on a 4+? ok then!

Gil-galad is really deadly, fight value 9 is awesome and he cuts through enemy heroes like a hot knife through butter. And defence 8 for 5 Points is sweet!

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

I agree here. I've seen Gil Galad fall to a LOT. He's awesome, but at 250?

Math it up:

Heavy Armor on all units and whatever other weapon you'd like: 10 points per basic troop.

Captains - 75 points each.

1 Banner Bearer (I'd only take 1 special unit at 250 points) - 34 points (35 for the sake of a better number)

Now,

1 Captain
+
1 Banner
+
11 Elves (wargear Above)
= 220 Points.
12 Guys and 30 points

OR:

Take Gil-Galad. Give Him a shield for D8. 145 points.
Wow. I don't recommend this. I've seen him die to catapaults and more.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Awesome model, better than Elrond. But personally, I don't like him.

First off, yes, yes I am most definitely crazy

I do agree that your way of doing this 250 is better DW, but is this following list that much worse than yours? Hear me out:

Gil-Galad
7 Elves w/ HA and Glaive
4 Elves w/ HA and Bow

250 bang on.

One less and guy and no rerolls doesn't seem so bad to me when the break point stays the same and the banner will not be that effective really at 250 maybe gaining me a combat or two, sometimes more and quite a lot of the time nothing. In return I have a combat monster with another might and a weapon that atomizes people, well kinda..... Is that list so bad? I don't lose any bows either except I could give the captain one perhaps.

What's your thoughts guys?

Small games can be just as, if not more exciting, you should not underestimate them!

small games are awsome and really bring out the skirmish style of the whole middle earth realm.

As for thee list I do like it, even though I feel gil galad is way OP in small games, he will just chew through any model sent his way.

The onlly weakness I think it has is agaist hordes and magic users, gil galad cannot resist magic forever, and the only 12 models against say 30+ goblins in a 250 point battle could be some what of an uphill struggle.

I just played against elves, and I now see that Gil Galad could be worth it.

500 points.

The Elves - Legolas, and 41 elves. The swordsmen and spearmen had heavy armor, the bowmen had armor.

vs.

10 Uruk-Warriors with Swords and Shields.
10 Uruk pikemen.
Saruman.
An Uruk banner-bearer.
A cave troll (i'd left my other uruks at home).

The Elves were wrecked. Usually, size matters, but a highly concentrated force will do well too (see: Isildur)

Your kidding right? The elves should have taken that to pieces! They got distracted by the troll then? Once the shield Uruks were dead from bowfire and the last of them mopped up the rest should have been easy pickings and ready to be broken. Slightly illegal on the elves side too? No warbands?

Each to their own I do love my large battles but I just enjoy the tactical finesse required in 500pts or less, especially 250pts

We were playing the old rules because my friend hadn't gotten around to painting everybody/designating captains. (Usually, a different color/base style makes captaisn cheaper/easier to optain.

I've always found Gil-Galad is picked off first when I use him and won't die when my opponents do! XD Elrond, however, is usually the core of my force, Nature's Wrath is a really good power that has kept me in the running before now. Always fun to include Arwen or a Galadhrim Stormcaller for more, though... And Thranduil has his auto-cast version if you want to go further afield
