So I'm currently building up my guard army. As I work towards my optimal list I wanted to create a strong list with the models I have. I can proxy different weapons and things but please bear in mind these are the models I have available to use at the moment...

HQ
CCS (Creed, vox, lascannon, flamer)
Lord commisar (power weapon)

ELITE
Marbo
Ratlings

FAST
Vendetta
Vendetta
Scout sentinel x2 (missile launchers)

TROOPS
PCS (vox, plasma x3) (in vendetta)
SWS (melta x3) (in vendetta)
HWS (lascannon x3)
Veterans (melta x3, demolitions)
Chimera
Veterans (plasma x3)
IS 1 (commisar, vox, autocannon)
IS 2 (commisar, vox, autocannon)
IS 3 (commisar, vox, autocannon)

HEAVY
LRBT (lascannon, multi-melta)
LRD (lascannon, plasma cannon)

= 2000

When I have the models my list will hopefully look like this:

Spoiler:

HQ
CCS (vox, creed)
CCS (vox, AC)

ELITES
Marbo
Vindicare assassin (friends I play against said its fine to use this )

FAST
Vendetta
Vendetta

TROOPS
PCS (vox, 3 flamers)
HWS 1 (3 AC)
HWS 2 (3 HB)
IS1 (vox, commisar)
IS2 (GL)
IS3 (vox, commisar)
IS4
Veterans 1 (3 melta)
Chimera
Veterans 2 (3 plasma)
Chimera

HEAVY
LRBT
LRD
LR Executioner

= 1995

Until then I have added in a lot of upgrades (tank sponsors, vendetta bolters etc) but not really sure what else I could do with the models I have...

I play friendly games against orks, grey knights, dark angels, chaos marines.

Any advice would be great thanks. I tend to just throw what I have on the table so want to make a list to give me some strategy . Thanks, Adam.

Just bumping this, looking for advice ie should the sentinels have the missile launchers or AC, are the PCS and SWS wasted in the vendettas etc... Thanks

Not a bad list, just some wargear mix ups and where units are being placed.

The CCS doesn't need a flamer as it's a static unit with the lascannon.

The Lord Commissar doesn't need a power weapon, just keep him cheap.

You don't want squads inside Vendettas as they cannot shoot out. You only put squads inside Vendettas when you want to zoom for a objectie. If you use the Vendettas as transport then you're moving forward not firing all lascannons and dropping the short ranged infantry into the enemy along with your Vendetta; the opponent then gets two birds with one stone.

Your tanks to do not need the weapon upgrades. Just take standard tanks with hull heavy flamers and that's it. Come to think about it your list is static and a Demolisher is shorted ranged, I would switch both of these for Manticores.

Hope that helps.

Thanks mercer, I think you've helped on some of my other threads so appreciate it! I will swap the flamer in CCS for a GL probably and not take units in the vendettas. The reason for all the weapon upgrades is simply to make the list 2000 pts with models I have. My friends have quite large armies and so prefer to use what they can, and although some might say its unfair that I have to stretch my army I don't mind its all fun . My optimal list that I'm aiming for is much more focused.

I might actually proxy the manticore, I was put off by the lower armour and limited turns shooting, maybe a medusa would suit me better as its not limited to over 24" shots.

Dante sorry not sure what you mean lol! I think I've added everything up right if that's what you mean haha.

Thanks again

Manticores are cool. They fire average 7 shots over the game and can threaten infantry and vehicles, they can also double out T5 units and of course no feel no pain either. The Manticore can also direct fire, so it has no firing limits.

Btw if you fancy a game let me know as I live in Cannock which isn't too far

If you're asking him to post points cost, I'm afraid that's against forum rules. Copyright issues, you see.

@Mercer that sounds good didn't realise they could direct fire thanks. And yer haha definitely, I'm south Birmingham like Solihull way, but I will definitely be up for that once my army is sorted! I only know like 2 other people that play lol so yer sounds good

All ordnance barrage can direct fire unless stated . I don't think the Medusa can direct fire, might be wrong.

Ok, can you travel?

Haha my friend has my rule book so didn't know that! Medusa has a 48" or 36" range I think depending on bastion breacher shells or not.

Yer I can, so can get to the Birmingham store or something. Only thing is I have uni exams at the moment so it'll be summer before i can get a game in. Could pm you nearer the time?

I have done wonders with demo melta vets in valks. Putting one demo charge in the special weapon squad for the vet might help you alot. They kill just about everything and will ID any pesky Paladins you might face. Also only the eathshaker and medusa can direct fire if i remember right. The other two are mortars so only aim up.

I may be mixing up the colossus and the Medusa though. One can only fire direct and the other can only indirect.

I do love demo charges, I might just do that and chuck atleast one demo in. Initially I gave the SWS 3 haha i thought nice little suicide unit hop out the vendetta and drop some hurt from 3 charges haha but decided against it lol. I will probably put one in though, thanks for the input!
