Played a game last night.Opponent told me 1500 and store was going to close, so I wrote a quick list. I didn't pick up on this until I got home, but I think I got hosed on points.

He ran:

10 Terminators with Wolf priest
10 Terminators with named character (Logar maybe? cannot remember)
2 vindicators
Predator with lascannon turret
5 Thunderwolves (1 with powerfist)
Thino with 10 marines, plasma pistol, 2 plasma guns.

I am not sure how much those wolves cost, but 10 termies should be 400. SO that is 800 for termies, 400ish for two HQs, 225 for vindis, 130? for pred, around 220 for marines with rhino, plus wolves. I am guessing he had a 2000 point list. Am I close?

Squad 1 ~ 550
Squad 2 ~ 700
Tanks ~ 350
Wolves ~275
Squad 3 ~220

Now, I dont know what wolves can take as troops but im pretty sure termies can't be troops. So, illigal as well as over points...way over points.

EDIT- Just read logans' rules, I guess termies can be troops.

Wolf guard can be troops with the right hq. (Logan)
Wolf guard can take termie armor.

Makes me hate that army even more

The problem is that wolf guard terminators can either be cheaper than regular terminators or way more expensive depending on what they are armed with. that means that it's really hard to estimate how many points those terminator squads are worth. that being said, it does look fishy that all of that would fit into a 2000 point list .

Trust me that guy was taking the piss. I'd stake my wolf priest on it.

His list was 1855 at minimum. if he had any extra upgrades not listed it would be more than that.

You're looking at almost 1000 points with that.

2 vindicators

Maybe 200 points.

Predator with lascannon turret

Maybe 120-150 points.

5 Thunderwolves (1 with powerfist)

Around 200 points.

Rhino with 10 marines, plasma pistol, 2 plasma guns.

Around 150-200 points.


Total = low end about 1500, high end around 1700. I'm not looking at the book right now but going off of what I run in my SW army. The list is legal because of Logan making those terms troop choices.

I don't think you got screwed.

Somewhere it looks like people began thinking of a 2000 list but there is no way to fit all that in 1500. The termies with no upgrades and 2 vindicators are 1050 points if I remember correctly plus the marines thunder cav and hqs.

You are low balling a lot of those figures, even with no upgrades bar what was mentioned it comes to over 1850.

You'd probably have another 90 or so on the thunderwolves, some weapons options on the WG terminators and I would guess there were some other buffs like MOTW and the wolf banner in there too.

Yes, this was supposed to be a 1500 point game. He had just played a game before and it appears it was the same list. But it looks like even if everything was stripped down, he might have been at 1850.

I am not upset. It could have been a misunderstanding on my part.

And, this was the first time facing Thunderwolves. I completely underestimated them. If I had known, I would have focused on them and then this might have been a little closer outcome. (I was running bikes and speeders). If I had killed the dogs on turn 1, I could have danced away from his termies for the rest of the game. As it was, the wolves kept me from doing what I wanted.

Oh well. Learning point. No hard feelings on my part although I will give him a hard time over it when I see him again.

Out of curiousity I had to pull out my codex and do the math. Below are the exact point costs:

10 Terminators with Wolf priest = 330 + 100 = 430pts
10 Terminators with Logan: 330+275 = 605pts
2 vindicators = 230pts
Predator with lascannon turret = 105pts
5 Thunderwolves (1 with powerfist) = 270 pts. But cant take power fist. Added a Wolf Claw in the point total instead.
Rhino with 10 marines, plasma pistol, 2 plasma guns = 210pts

Total = 1850

I had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago - was playing a 1500 point game and I actually trimmed about 150 points out of my list (I saw the players last game so I self handicapped a little w/o him feeling bad).

I ran his list through AB afterward, turns out he brought about 2100 points with him - I knew it felt like I just ran out of steam by the end! At least it was a close, intense game though and I am sure I am a better player for it.

Yeah, that puts it at 1855 with no further upgrades. Hard to imagine that he brought a stripped down Wolf Priest without a saga and no further upgrades to his termies.

They are so broken!

He is a nice guy and I don't think this was intentional. However, he is not the strongest 40K player out there and I was wondering why I struggled against him. I like to think this was an honest mistake.

And, now I don't have to recognize the loss (not that trivial such things matter).
