500 point list
HQ: CCS: Boltgun, 2x sniper, heavy bolter -72

Troops:
Platoon;
PCS: x4 flamer -50
2x squads: sniper, heavy bolter -130
vet, 3x grenade launchers, shotguns, camo cloaks -115

Heavy:
Vendetta -130

Total- 497

Your two squads and CCS fire at range, the PCS is counter assault and the vets are meant to keep their distance from the enemy and hit them with krak grenades and keep out of the 12' rapid fire range of enemy guns. If the enemy gets to close, they can assault if need be. The Vendetta is obvious, also, it's empty.
This is just a basic list I like the idea of using the catachan fluff as a frame work. Any ideas would be most useful.

well if your playing 500 points then most of the times its only 1 troop choice required so i would scrap vets and scrap the hq ccs for a support hq or keep it and make it all sniper or long range shooters scince thats what this list apperes to be and you wither need more lr (switch flamers for snipers )

what this list needs is either anti vehical i would scarp the vendeta and buy something else like a tank or artilery but ill leave that to you now what you can do is 1 of 2 things
spam infantry or go for tanks

From my understanding even at 500 points you still needed atleast 2 troop choices. If I don't need that, then yeah, I would happily remove the vets and add more standard squads to my platoon.

The reason I went with the Vendetta rather then a russ was the Catachan rarely use tanks if at all. Vendetta seems a nice replacement and it's also easily the best anti-tank vehical the IG has and a bargan at 130 points.

Now my CCS is long ranged support, twin snipers, a heavy bolter and a standard bolter on my commander. That gives 5 shots at 36' and two of them rending and pinning all at BS4. The bolter just gives the commander something to do other then stand there and look pretty.

yes but that said it WILL be shot down turn 1 so either shot down turn 1 or have something that will survive till at least turn 2

I disagree. It's all about smart tactics. Oh, at this point level it's a target, but it's all about placement or use of flanking or deep striking. I think it'd do fine.
