Subject: Grundz Industries Needs help designing bases!
As some of you may know, I cast stuff, mostly little plasticard things I cant be bothered to make dozens of, however I think the quality of my work and resign formulae are ready for the task.
Having found a partner that is at least 35% as crazy as I am, I'm looking to scale up to making bases for sale, then, larger things, then THE WORLD!
I have several concepts drawn up which look pretty good IMHO, and some concepts that are simple, awesome, and I am shocked have not been seen before, but am looking for more ideas.
So if you are one of those guys that say "boy I'd buy some resin bases if they had ones that were _____" I'm your man!
If you made a bunch of your own bases/stuff and say "hmm this is alot of work I wish someone could make me more for cheap!" look no further!
If you have an army whom you want bases made, then the molds burned, the ashes thrown into a volcano and then blown up, sure why not!
I HIGHLY prefer email because dakka's pm system doesn't keep track of threads and all the re:re;Re;re;REEEEE;'s anger me, so my email is slmechanis@gmail.com Feel free to spam me with poorly drawn pictures and ideas, If I use your concept, I'll ship you a free set of 10 of your bases!
Feel free to post here as well, but I prefer the actual concept ideas to be super secret pinky swear emailed.

I have never seen a rock/stone/forest base with water effect in it. I am looking to get a whole army based and the best I have been able to do is use a circle cut of cork and cut away a chuck then paint the black showing from the missing chunk and use hobby water to fill it in. It is a lot of work.
so Water Effect bases are my vote!

I recently got into Malifaux, and am building up my Collette Crew... and prior to buying popcicle stick-esque wood pieces, I really wish that I had some bases in the same size/style as Malifaux's that was a "stage" of sorts... ya know, wood floor, possibly some little gas light looking deals.

I want to see some mad science and clockwork nightmare bases in warmachine sizes. I make most of my own bases but my materials and ideas sometimes run dry and I have bought bases before when the price is right.
Speaking of warmachine sized bases, please make sure to make both styles of bases in each theme you chose. I can't tell you how many times I think "oh that looks cool, I wonder how many different 50mm bases they make in that theme?" only to find out it is zero instead of the four or more I need.
I've just made some cracked earth bases that turned out really nice, if your interested.
What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
I've got molds for Lava bases, and for some Crag bases (I call them). I reserve the Copyright, but as I'm not really doing anything with them, I'd be willing to let Grundz Industries manufacture and distribute them, for a minor cut of the profits.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, forgot the Cobblestone bases, as well.

Id do this, and take you up on your offer, but my main problem is that if I find a piece of shale, 0.5 cm thick, and about 20 cm^2 area... I have enough material for 200 models. Sand is easy to come by, and so are woodchips and cork. Craft foam can be cut and beveled to make nice tiles or bricks, and sprues can be used to the same effect. I can get any material and make what I need myself.
I'm not trying to crap on you, but, why would I pay dollars for bases when I can make them for pennies?
About the only ones I MIGHT buy are as mentioned above, spacehulk-esque, but I can't say it's an awfully popular game with diverse enough rules for me to add more elements to it.
That said, perhaps you might find some means of making a cheap 3-d spacehulk kit? I would fork over for that.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

I think there are a ton of every conceivable base, really. While you should obviously pay some attention to making wholly original bases, I don't think that should discourage you from going the Apple route and doing pre-existing stuff better.
I'd love to see some Space Egyptian Robot themed bases.

As a guy who makes terrain and takes commissions and has made tons of my own bases I totally get this thought.
In fact, I made custom bases for an entire army once.
However, these days, time is a very precious commodity and its not always about cost...
My most recent army, I wanted a new base theme (urban, with light rubble) - I could have made those bases as well.
I bought them. When time was limited for the hobby, I would rather spend it on painting and playing than in crafting bases...
