Hey. I am getting my brother some Necrons as a gift and I just want some input on a couple things. I'm trying to get him around 1000 points and this is what I came up with.
Necron Overlord (Warscythe, Sempiternal Weave, Catacomb Command Barge) 195
-Royal Court [2] (2x Cryptek, 2x Harbinger of Destruction) 70
Necron Warriors [9] (Ghost Ark) 232
Necron Warriors [9] (Ghost Ark) 232
Necron Immortals [5] (tesla Carbines) 85
Triarch Stalker (Twin-Linked Heavy Gauss Cannon) 165
Comes it at 979 which leaves some wiggle room for goodies, Phaoron or Mindshackle Scarabs on the Overlord, Gaze of Flames or a single Solar Pulse for the Crypteks. Seems like a solid backbone and it makes good use of a Battleforce box which is a plus on the price side of things. I figure he can make the two Crypteks out of some simple conversions with Deathmark heads, and then with the addition of another Ark, a Command Barge, and a Stalker, the list is filled out to 1000 points.
My questions mostly pertain to list building in general as I am unfamiliar with the army as a whole since the codex rewrite and I have never played against them personally. I did some digging and reading as far as the competitive tournament style builds and ran into Wraithwing, Scarab Farm, and Tremortek/Writhing Worldscape builds. Can anyone expand a little bit on how these are built and if there is another common one I have missed please feel free to add.
As far as I know he wants to go a CC-ish route. I understand that Necrons are not a truly CC army but he is coming from Tau and so having anything even if only a single unit to have fun with is a marked improvement. I know that Wraithwing and Scarabs are obviously CC oriented, I am more curious about input on a Lychguard unit. I understand they suffer from low Initiative and getting swept but is there a way to make them work better? The models look fantastic and I want to be able to give him some advice on where to spend the next 500 points to get the army to where he wants.
Also for this list specifically, I feel it is a pretty well rounded core to the army, but I am unsure how well it translates into each of the archetypal lists. I am all too aware of lists with little or no overlap and I want to get him units he can actually make use of hopefully no matter which direction he decides to go. I am open to suggested changes in the composition and or wargear swaps and would love to know which weapon is most commonly used on the Stalker. My gut tells me to buy the Heavy Gauss Cannon to help augment the lack of high S low AP weaponry.
In any case thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
