I just recently picked up the two books and proxied two starter boxes (Brood and Outcasts).

Our first game was brutal. Most of that had to do with the fact that we played w/o terrain just to see what would happen. Things may have gone better for the Brood if they had a chance to hide on their approach but what really cost them the game was some poor rolling during their attacks.

The game, much like Infinity, is all about special rules. Everything has a special rule; everything! With the exception of all the special rules, movement, combat and figuring modifiers are very intuitive and quick. The rule book even includes a campaign system that allows for units to gain experience and change their stats as the campaign progresses.

I like it but I need to get in a few more games to really get a feel for how particular units work with each other (there are a lot of options for each faction/sub faction). There is something satisfying though about the image of turning your opponent into a fine paste as you hit them in the head with a piece of street barricade that's been tied to your arm.

The game is a great skirmish game using a D20 where the lower you roll, the greater your success. The tournaments are objective based. The "March to Immortality" champion gets to be a true immortal by designing his own figure.

I have a Brood and a Saint Mark army. I first played in a qualifier for the March to Immortality with a borrowed Brood army. I won my first two games and lost the third. It was that simple to learn that I played a demo a few hours before the tournament. There are special abilities that do need some getting used to just like any other game systems out there.

How difficult is the learning cure, compared to Infinity, as it probably has the steepest learning curve of all the games I have played.

Are all the rules on the cards or do you need a separate sheet (for the abilities)?

There's no comparison; Infinity is WAY more difficult to learn. While Dark Age does have a ton of special rules they are almost all very easy to remember after a game or two. Movement, combat, and cover are all very easy to learn. Target numbers are easy to figure out quickly (there aren't that many modifiers in the game.)

I'd suggest downloading the quick start rules here http://www.dark-age.com/Downloads/QuickStart/QuickStartRules_4Sept2011.pdf. These 6 pages pretty much cover all the basics. You can also download the force lists, templates, and spells/effects for each faction so you can proxy a few models and try things out (you just won't be able to use the special abilities since they're only listed in the force list book.)
