Subject: Bolt Action: WW2 from Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley

Available August 2012
Written by veteran game designers Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley, Bolt Action provides all the rules needed to bring the great battles of World War II to your tabletop. Using miniature soldiers, tanks and terrain, you can fight battles in the shattered towns of occupied France, the barren deserts of North Africa, and even the sweltering jungles of the Pacific. Players get to decide which of the major or minor World War II powers they would like to represent, and then construct their armies from the lists provided. Army options are almost limitless, allowing you to build the kind of army that most appeals to your style of play, from heavily armored tank forces to lightly armed, but highly skilled. The choice is yours. Created as a joint project between Warlord Games, the premiere historical miniatures company, and Osprey Publishing, the leading independent military history publisher, Bolt Action is sure to be the most popular new wargame on the market.

That would be worth a closer look. I'm tempted to get the rule book with my next Osprey order.

The good news is that the army books span the chrnology of the war.

Where's the British army book though? Yank plastics have just been released, Brit plastics have been out for ages now. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I see, plastic Rangers boxed set is on its way: http://www.warlordgames.com/20985/pre-order-rangers-lead-the-way-us-rangers-boxed-set/

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness. ADB |

The British only played a minor role in WW2.
Obligatory Grognard moan about the cost.
Does anyone know what the preferred scale is? I don't have any investment in 15mm, 20mm, 1/72 or 28mm WW2 models yet.

Rubbish. The Bolt Action models are 28mm true scale or whatever les Grognards call it. They'll look woefully out of proportion next to regular GW minis. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kilkrazy wrote:The British only played a minor role in WW2.

You sir are a traitor to the Empire!
Scale-wise this looks to be 28mm skirmish rules.

I wouldn't say true scale, but definitely a somewhat less cartoonish scale. Just standard 28mm. I just wish people wouldn't jump on "Maybe it could be an IG counts as?" for every single human-sized kit that gets released anywhere. I really like the look of the Bolt Action plastics, and Cavatore and Priestley are some very good names to bank on. Color me interested.

Any 28mm model could be an IG stand-in as long as you use the same scale for all the different figures (officers, etc) which probably needs a fair amount of converting.

I tried that with a spare Lucius pattern lasgun from Forge World, which already casts pretty delicate guns in comparison to the ham fisted stuff of GW, it was still too big.
