Well, I've been a long time lurker, and figured I'd try and contribute to this fine forum.

First of all - a bit about me.

I've been into 40k/Necromunda for at 5-10 years now. I just love the whole 'grim dark' universe and all the characters in it.
I'd describe my painting standard as okay. Hardly Golden Demon level, but definitely okay for table top standard. Unfortunately I have a fairly severe tremor (had it since I was young) so fine details for me are quite a task. The tremor means I can't touch caffeine if I want to paint, however, beer does help subdue the tremor a little bit

Anyway, enough jibber-jabber, on with the show!

So the aim of this plog is to keep me focussed on some current painting projects I have.

Project #1: The Aredan Spectres -

The Aredan Spectres are a homebrew chapter that I've been tinkering with for sometime now. The basic idea behind them is they are garrison force of Iron Warriors 'left behind' on a backwater planet, forgotten by the Empreror and their Legion. So, being typical marines, they got cranky and bitter and decided as a group "you know what, we don't need you guys anyway."
So off they went, pillaging forgeworlds for STC's and materials to grow their small company into a mighty Legion.
What this means in the real world: I want to grow a force out to a full Astartes company (so roughly 100 marines plus support).
Heres a photo of the first test marine I did for the Spectres:

And heres what I have to assemble and paint - 60 marines and 2 Defilers (the defilers will be upright Defilers that I'll use as 'counts as' Titan Knights.)

Project # 2: Necromunda -

I have always loved the character of the different gangs in Necromunda. My aim is to collect a basic 8-10 model gang of every Necromunda house and outlaw gang and eventually go on to make my own characters in a similar style to Inquisimunda, highly detailed and individual models.

And finally, I thought I'd throw up a shot of where all this magic will be happening as I've noticed people in other threads always end up showing it:

Thanks for reading, I'll be updating in the next week or so with more background on my legion and hopefully a few more tactical marines will be done.

Correct. Despite countless millennia of evolution, technological advances and civilization, we're still monkeys throwing feces at things we don't like.-Zed.

Imperial Flyers don't actually "fly" they just go fast enough that they fall in an arc that keeps them parallel to the ground. -Clockwork Zion

You have my interest. I like the fluff on the chapter. Could you take a pic of your model with a flash please though? It is hard to see.

Papa Nurgle has visited me over the last few days which has meant plenty of time for some painting. So far I've managed to get a combat squad completed.

For anyone asking the marines use Maxmini Steam Knight heads, with backpacks and rifles from Anvil Industries. What I'm trying to achieve is a 'slight pre-heresy' vibe.

Here's some slightly better pictures (still not great, I've got a rather average camera - Panasonic Lumix)

My aim over the next week or two is to have a full tactical squad with rhino transport completed with a fairly comprehensive background of the chapter.

With the weekend coming to an end, I suppose I should show off my fairly average efforts.

90% done, these guys just need the backpacks done.

Close up of my first Sergeant. Typical powerfist and plasma pistol setup. I'm trying to mix Chaos and Loyal marines armour to give a slightly older feel to the armour.
Basically it will be Loyal marines torso and shoulders with chaos legs. Nothing to flash I know but I believe it gives the right feel.

Just a basic marine with missile launcher. I'm kind of at a lost how to make the marines with heavy weapons more 'pre-heresy' style without purchasing forgeworld (ie expensive) bits.

The photo quality needs to improve I know, eventually will be getting a decent camera and hopefully improve my skills.

Now I've been working on the background for these guys as well and this is what I have so far.

The History of the Areden Spectres

The planet of Aredan was once a thriving forgeworld located in the western section of Segmentum Pacificus. With a strong interest from the Adeptus Mechanicus, the forgeworld was a major producer of a variety of weapons and vehicles. The Iron Warriors soon realised the value of being in close proximity to such a planet, and quickly left a small garrison force.

As news of the heresy spread, the Iron Warriors on Aredan were devided. Many, having grown frustrated over the years by what they viewed as petty duties better served by the likes of the Imperial Guard, were willing to take up the arms in the name of Horus. However, there were those of the Iron Warriors who were refusing to defy the Emperors word.

A bitter civil world quickly spread across Aredan, Iron Warriors fought each other through the crowded streets of Aredan, recruiting many of the Adeptus Mechanicus Skittarii to help secure the planet. After years of fighting, the numbers of the Iron Warriors had dwindled, with those still loyal to the Emperor gaining control of the planet.

By now Horus was dead and the forces loyal to the Emperor swept through the Imperium, uprooting the renegades and pushing them back from Terra. The remaining Iron Warriors rejoiced upon the news of the Iron Hands marines coming to their aid. Unfortunately for the Iron Warriors still on Aredan, they had been declared heretics and the Iron Hands were to exterminate all signs of the Iron Warriors ever existing on Aredan.

As the Iron Hands arrived, the Iron Warriors were devastated by orbital bombardments as the drop pods crashed to the surface. Confused and betrayed, the Iron Warriors of Aredan escaped the forces of the Imperium using their one remaining Strike Cruiser,.

By now the Iron Hands of Aredan were caught in a crossfire. No longer accepted by the Imperium they had fought so hard to defend, but not accepted by the heretic brothers, the Iron Hands of Aredan stripped their armour of any symbolism belonging to either parties. Refusing to seek refuge in the Eye of Terror like so many of the cowardly forces of chaos, the now renamed Aredan Spectres relied on swift hit and run campaigns of surrounding forgeworlds to keep their small force battle ready.

Well thats all I've got for now. Its still at a pretty rough stage and I want to add some characters as well, to really flesh out the chapters history, as well as illustrate how important the role of Apothecary type marines are in keeping this chapter alive.

thanks for reading folks!

Wow good work man, those heads backpacks and rifles work wonders. Gives of an ancient pre-heresy vibe like you said

I like the rusty brass scheme aswell =)

Thanks for the kind words! I do need to work on the rust technique a little more I think, and maybe look at doing some highlighting.
Overall I'm happy with how they have turned out with the backpacks/rifles/heads. Still not quite sure how I'm going to go about doing
some Terminators, I'm thinking of using grey knight terminator heads on normal space marine terminators with chapterhouse studio
shoulder guards.

Not much to report in the past week. I've managed to assemble another 10 man tactical squad (no paint though.) And I'm hoping with my next pay to buy more rifles, heads and backpacks to have enough to finish the company.

As it stands this is what I'm aiming to achieve:
6 x Tactical Squads (3 rhino transports).
2 x Devestator Squads.
2 x Assault Squads (unsure if I'll give them jump packs or not).
1 Command squad with terminator bodyguard (Landraider transport).
3 x Vindicators.
2 x Titan Knights.
1 x Stormraven.
2 x Storm Talon gunships.

Well thats what I'm aiming for anyway. I think it'll be quite some time before I get to even the halfway point, especially whilst I wait for the goods from Anvil Industries to arrive.

I'll be posting some shots of my completed Delaque gang shortly.
