Is it always a 4' x 4' table, no matter the size of the game in terms of points?

As far as i'm aware it's entirely up to yourself, just like 40k.

You can use whatever you want but some sizes will be better aimed towards a good, enjoyable game. 4x4 is probably the best way to go for everything up to 300pts and even higher.

4x4 seems to be the standard. Smaller table can be used for small intro games (150 and less). Some folks argue that 6x4 is better than 4x4 for bigger games (250+) as otherwise it may be to easy to butcher someone in the first turn.

I think I'll come up with a table that can be 6' x 4' or 4' x 4'...

Mine is 5 x 4 1/2 and we never had any kind of problems with it =)

What about 1x1 or 2x2 modular sections, Alph? It'll allow you to switch things around to keep it fresh.

I think I'll make the scenery itself be somewhat modular, and not worry about 1' x 1' sections.

I think it will all work out in the end...

Table size can easily be the same for any points limit. Usually when Infinity armies escalate in points you won't neccesarily get more models just upgrade to better ones.

My board is modular, it can do 4x4 or go up to 8x4 as needed (does require a second table to hold it up though.).

That said, we tend to use 6x4s for 300pts, just so that hmgs and snipers don't have everything in optimal range from the get go and rifles/combirifles/spitfires have zones they can't hit.

Heres a question:

With Infinity, should you use a rectangular board, do you deploy on the long or short board edges?

I'd say deploy along the short board edges.

Good question!

I'd say short edges would be best in terms of more maneuvering, tactical work, etc.

A nice suggestion someone once had was to allow the dude who chooses deployment to choose any table edge, as this gives more power to this option and makes it potentialy as beneficial as going first.

Using the short sides seems like the intuitive way to do things but Rejnhard's house rule sounds really awesome.

I guess if you used Rejnhard's rule then the short edge would be picked most of the time anyway but it lends another level of unknown which makes it more interesting.

We leave that to the chooser of the "deployment" option, where we use longer boards.
If you have a few sniper/hmg/ml units, the short edge option will be helpful for you (you can get shots off when they can't hit you simply because of range mods).
If you have close range specialists (Yu-Jing specialise at the close range stuff), then long board edge would be better.

Has anyone tried playing with round tables? I'm looking at our round kitchen table and I'm thinking if it can be used for Infinity...

All the time. Square tables are for squares. We play on all sorts of weird surfaces, As long as we can fit the terrain on it, we make up for the lack of horizontal with more vertical. That gets crazy.

Ever had a shootout between two skyscrapers? Climbing Plus and Superjump become AWESOME.

Also, Orbital Elevators, another great vertical combat field.

Round would be fine I'd think. you can split it up in quarters or even do a clock type thing for determining where combat jumpers come in etc.

We play most of our tournaments at 300 points and stick to 4x4' tables.

If you are playing on a 6x4 table I think you could have some interesting deployment options if you deploy in corners.

My first games, using only starter packs (about 125p) were in a 4'x2' table, deploying in the 2' sides. Now we usually play 200p on a 4'x4' table. It's pretty much your choice.
