I was thinking on how could the Black templars be made more unique. I don´t want to see a new codex only with adjusted point values, I want something special, something only BT can have.

Neophytes actually is one unique thing - no other chapter can include scouts in their squads. I use a lot of them as ablative wounds, if some of them survive to deliver attacks in CC only better. But why not make their use a little more varied? So I thought of neophyte specialization

So my idea was to give neophytes option to be upgraded to one of these:

Shiled bearer - 5 points
Neophyte switches bolt pistol with storm shield.

Medic - 10 points
the unit can roll a single feel no pain roll per player turn (neophyte tending his masters wounds).

Ammo carrier - 10 points
To hit rolls from a single weapon can be re-rolled (once per player turn).

Scrollbearer - 5 points
Add 1" to the Righteous zeal movement range, 1 per squad.

Weapon Carrier - 10 points
If an Initiate is carrying a Heavy weapon, this model is now relentless. 1 per squad

This is a pretty raw idea, I just thought I would get your opinions guys. Wouldn´t it be sweet if something like this found its way into the new codex? Can you brainstorm any more neophyte specializations?

Edit: changed the squire upgrades to include the stuff proposed. Feel free to comment the point values or suggest further squire upgrades.

Scrollbearer - Increases the range of the unit's Righteous Zeal move by 1". Would probably have to be limited to 1 per squad though.

I think you could change your Shieldbearer to simply swap his bolt pistol for a Storm Shield for 5 points. Grey Knights get Crusaders for 15 ppm, and they have Power Weapons as well.

Well on Scrollbearer I designed my own Command Squad with my new creation 'The Keeper of the Scroll' he was armed with with a flamer and in the other hand he held a scroll sort of like the Imperial Fist from the Ultramarine movie. P.S He is a Space Marine not a Neophyte.

Yeah, maybe. I thought it was a little OP, but considering what other armies get these days.
Or we could make the shield bearer 3+/6++ save but just for 1 point.

That would be brutal! Relentles lascannon in crusader squad...

I think that would be a quality idea, always thought neophytes should have some form of "squire" upgrades that benefit the marine training them

I really really like these ideas, I just use them as meat shields now.

Those storm shields would make them EVEN BETTER meat shield .

To save my original idea - what if we gave neos a free choice to switch bolt pistol for a shield (3+ armour save)?

Ya none of neophytes have passed lesson 1: how to catch a bullet. It would be cool to see some more variety with the future of our chapter. Squire upgrades fit very well with the knight theme.
