Subject: Minimum Range on War Machines

War Machines like Cannons, and Stone Throwers and the like, are there minimum ranges on them? Or is that specific for certain War Machines? I don't think there is for the Bolt thrower, I think there is for the Stone Thrower, not sure about the Cannon. Was hoping someone who uses war machines who knows them well could help me with this one please. Thank you.

Specific for each kind of war machine, but AFAIK stone throwers are the only ones with a minimum range.

It is specific for each war machine. Warmachine that have a min range will have their range list in the form <min> - <max>. Bolt thrower/cannon usually doesn't have a min range but for cannon you still have to roll for overshot so anything under 10" is pretty much impossible to hit with normal shooting.

You may want to re-read how cannons are fired. Hitting things under 10" with the single shot is fairly easy depending on how far under it is. Anything 6-10" is actually pretty good odds.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

Yeah, you can fire at point blank range with Cannons, but its got a high chance of missing completely. You probably have better chances with Grapeshot most of the time.
Bolt Throwers have no minimum range. Point blank is just fine.
Stone Throwers and similer warmachines do have a minimum range.

Iirc, 6th edition had a min range for cannons which I think was 12 or 18, under which you had to use grapeshot.
I may be mistaken though, don't have a 6th brb around.
