So I'm doing Red Hunters , which is an Inquisition serving chapter of Space Marines.

As such, the general color scheme will be dark red with gold details.

My problem is, having a single bright blue model amidst a sea of red sounds off putting to me. So would it be heresy if I left him red and perhaps only did the helmet blue?

Without getting into why an Inquisition serving space marine chapter goes against the fluff, I've always been a fan of painting the Librarian the colour of your chapter with a blue shoulder pad as a compromise.

Ahem... http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Red_Hunters#.T7Lz51Iv5I1

IA7 disagrees with you about the fluffiness of said chapter.

A blue shoulder may well be enough compromise though. I really wanted to do his helmet white(using the Sevrin Loth FW model) but I suppose that would look all American if all 3 colors were on it.

Hmm, never heard of them. Its generally agreed by many I've spoken to about DIY chapters that Inquisition serving marine chapters are generally a bad idea for the Imperium. I thought you were doing a DIY chapter, my mistake.

But yes, a blue shoulder pad would look good and be the right amount of fluffy.

Could make it a dark blue like the Crimson Fists instead of the usual bright Ultramarines one.

Just as a really, really minor note...

They don't "serve" the Inquisition. They assist. It's a very fine line, but the Red Hunters can say no.
It's just not likely.

Anyways, the idea I had awhile back when looking at the Red Hunters?
For the Librarians, do the main body blue--but with the entire right arm in red.

Or make it Gold, or Silver, or Brass, Black, Purple, or whatever other color that looks good with red and is not already within your army.

The Apothecary for my Raven Guard (all black) had a while helmet, while shoulder pad, and white arms.

I am a big fan of leaving the main part of the armor in the chapter colors and using shoulder pads, helmets, and maybe lower legs and arms to denote special characteristics (chaplain, librarian, apothecary, etc...)

For my Ezekial did the colours inverted, so DA green all over and blue shoulder pads, i think it suits him better and if you are the master lib of a sneeky chapter... well your not going to advertise lol
