Having played the DLC campaign for Duke Nukem forever you will find it much more inline with the Original Duke Nukem's. Try it out!
(I had a blast with the Duke Nukem Forever game itself, guilty secret)

Of course it needs a second look. A lot of people dismiss it out of hand, most of whom have never actually played it, simply because it's popular to do so.

The whole problem I see is that people expect this to be made of 100% excellence and that will just not happen in the Duke series. The mind set you need to be in is the "Nukem" mindset. Meaning that you want lot's of pointless violence, titty slapping and a couple of trips to the glory-hole.

Yeah, Duke Nukem forever is more like Halo than Duke Nukem 3D. Did not like.
I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't as it was basically like every other clunky ass FPS that was out there.

Halo wasn't that bad.
DNF was full of horrible design choices. Linear map design, 2 weapons, turret segments and the list goes on.
The best part of the game was probably some of the puzzles. xD

Amusingly, they fixed the two weapons thing, allowing four weapons instead. I thought the turret segments were a nice break from the standard FPS gameplay, myself. Same with the driving segments, the puzzle segments, the platforming segments, the cooldown/break segments, etc... They made a lot of effort to add variation to the gameplay, and yet people whine about how it doesn't have variation while they suck the metaphorical bollocks of games which don't even put forth a thousandth of the effort at variation.

Unfortunately, turret sections are boring, as you just sit there blazing away. No dodging, no strafing, just shooting. The driving segments would have worked...if the vehicle physics were any good. And you know something is wrong with an FPS, especially a Duke game, when you have to wait 30-45 mins before getting a decent gun.
Good to hear they went up from 2 weapons to 4 though. Not quite the magic satchel I was wanting, but its still pretty good.

It fixed my only real complaint with the game. I never had a chance to use the freeze gun, the shrink ray, or the expander gun until they put in the option to have four weapons instead of two. I mean why would I give up the ripper/shotgun and the RPG? But with four weapons, I have two slots dedicated to whatever quirky weapon I feel like using next and two slots dedicated to whatever main line weapons I want to use (usually the ripper and the RPG as noted).

The reason I said a "Second look" was because the DLC "The Doctor who cloned me" is really good.
It's Duke Nuke fighting Terminators and Aliens with a lot of cooler guns added in.

The main thing I didn't like were the textures. They were bloody terrible (on the PS3 anyway - I don't know if you can crank up the settings on PC to make it look passable).
As an aside, I'd have never imagined that you'd like Duke Nukem, Melissia. I would have thought that you'd dismiss it as male chauvinist nonsense. (Which isn't unfair)

I was the previous Champion of Duke, had a Duke Nukem avatar, made the old Duke Nukem Forever thread, and was 100% on board for Duke Nukem Forever. I was so excited for the game that I chose to pre-order the collector's edition on Xbox instead of PC, because for whatever reason the demo didn't run on my PC at all and I wanted to make sure I could play it day 1.
I still haven't finished it. The game's like 6 hours long, and I still couldn't be bothered to finish it. I was very, very disappointed. There's nothing inherently wrong with being like a Halo game, but it was a very poor imitation of that style of game, with clunky controls and bad level design. There were some moments of humor and good design that I really liked, but overall the game gets a score of "meh" out of 10 from me. I didn't outright hate it, but I was expecting a much better game and the disappointment was too much for me. The only thing I really hated was the very unfunny and frankly disturbingly hateful sequence around the early-mid game where the twins get impregnated and violently die right in front of you.
I'd get the DLC if the game and DLC were cheap on Steam. I've since upgraded my computer (I shouldn't have had to for Duke Nukem Forever, but it wasn't optimized well from what I can tell) and if DNF and its DLC are like 5 bucks on a random Steam sale I'll grab them. In the meantime I'll just replay Duke Nukem 3D again.

Okay, perhaps not re-done. It is a bad idea.
Out of curiousity, is it on steam? If not, it really should be.

Just medium settings on the PC makes it look great. And my computer is about six to seven years old by now. The PS3 and 360 really must suck if people complain about their graphics THIS much. That or it was a PC designed game with gakky console ports. I'm guessing the latter is probable, too.

I don't think anyone else on this planet holds this opinion. The graphics would have been pretty good if the game came out before Halo 3. Hell, the whole game would have been far better if it came out before Halo 3.

I don't really care that much. DS2 was at least better than modern shooters, but DNF was far more creative and inventive about its graphics. And its gameplay, for that matter. Hell even its characters were more interesting, and they were as basic as you get...

What, you mean it's a mystery why I like a game that has a character who actually has personality, as opposed to the dull and boring Mr. Blandy Monotonous McSameypants that ninety nine percent of FPS games, from battlefailed to medal of duty: call of honor, from dead space to space marine, and on and so fething forth, end up giving us? I dunno, maybe I just like playing something different sometimes.

Battlefailed? fething really? That's as lame as other clever shots like "Starcrap" et al. I used to love Duke Nukem as a character and they did keep his character relatively intact for DNF. There are definitely some good one-liners in there. It's just a shame the rest of the game isn't very good.

It had more gameplay variety than almost every other FPS game in recent history. It was well coordinated and executed, with excellent pacing ensuring that none of the action sequences ran too long without a breather sequence, and the game was always trying to do something new within the context of the game. Its controls were pretty good, the character moving smoothly and aiming was natural without any artificial nonsense such as swaying viewpoint when zoomed in. The graphics were colorful and fun to look at, giving a wide variety of settings, and though I wish they expanded more on the list of monsters, they did try to use those monsters in interesting ways. Dunno why you think "the rest of the game" wasn't very good. Sure it could have been better, but what is there is still a good, fun game. Besides I don't think any game ever made couldn't have been better some how. Oh, and yes. Battlefailed. It's not a bad series, but it's not the holy grail of good games like its fans claim it is. So they get "battlefailed" until they shut the feth up about it.

Really? I found the controls to be clunky and uinresponsive, with a terrible aiming system.
And yes, this is on the PC. Though I was playing the unpatched version...
I do agree that its a bit more colorful than today's shooters. Except for that godawful hive level, that completely changed the overall tone of the game and wasn't fun at all.
