So... Ghost: Jumper L1.

I've read the example online, and I guess I'm missing something, because I'm just not seeing what is so great about it?

Ghost: Jumper Example: The Posthuman Valentina Nero has deployed 3 Proxies to the battlefield. These are an infiltrated Proxy armed with a Sniper rifle, a Heavy Infantry Proxy with a Spitfire and a Proxy Hacker, hiding in the rearguard. Valentina decides to start in her infiltrated Proxy, placing the Active Proxy Marker beside it and declaring her Order: Move and Shoot. The successful shots of her Sniper Proxy clear the path for her Heavy Infantry Proxy. So, she places the Proxy Active Marker beside it and declares her next Order: Move and Move, taking up a good firing position with the Heavy Infantry. That is the end of the ALEPH player’s active turn, with the Proxy Active Marker remaining beside the Heavy Infantry.

His adversary’s active turn begins. A Hellcat lands in the rearguard of the ALEPH player, inside the Line of Fire of Valentina’s inactive Proxy Hacker. The inactive Proxy Hacker, using its reaction routines, declares a Dodge ARO, to try and gain Cover from the threat of the Hellcat. It will be a Normal PH roll, as the Hellcat has not shot at it. Valentina, even though downloaded to the Heavy Infantry Proxy, perceives what her Proxy Hacker does, and declares a Change Facing ARO with her Heavy Infantry Proxy, to cover the possible advance of the Hellcat.

The Hellcat declares a Move and Shoot Order against the inactive Proxy Hacker. This again triggers its reaction routines, declaring a Dodge ARO. Now the Proxy Hacker must to perform a Face to Face Roll (PH vs BS). Valentina, being conscious that dodging alone cannot prevent the threat of the Hellcat, decides to jump to the Proxy Hacker as an ARO to the Hellcat’s Order, and places the Proxy Active Marker besides it. However, the Proxy Hacker fails the Dodge roll, receiving a Wound. Thanks to its V: No Wound Incapacitation Special Skill, it remains standing.

The next Order of the Hellcat is to Shoot again and the Proxy Hacker, now active thanks to the downloaded presence of Valentina, can react in a normal way. So she declares a Shooting ARO. But luck is not with Valentina, and she loses the Face to Face roll. The Proxy Hacker receives another two hits, and falls Dead with Valentina still in it.

But, as the ALEPH player has an AI Beacon in play, as soon as an enemy figure declares an Order in LoF or ZC of either of Valentina’s other two Proxies, the Proxy can use its reaction routines and Valentina can declare an ARO to jump to the body of that Proxy, placing the Proxy Active Marker besides it.

Can someone help me out?

There is nothing great about it. The great part about posthumans is their cost. Compare posthuman mk2 sniper with daysu, their stats and their cost. Or mk1 hacker with deva hacker.
G:jumper is not an advantegous skill, it is a balancing disadvantage.

As Rejnhard says, who says it has to be something great?

However, it's not that terrible a disadvantage - you get reduced points costs, and a group of models that provide an ARO to the active proxy if an enemy does anything within LoS of any of them (The inactive proxies also get to take their own AROs, if from a reduced list).

If there's an AI beacon on hand, they get better - they can continue to jump from unconscious/dead proxies, which protects their order quite well and also lets you treat them as pretty expendable.

I still don't quite 'get' how they work. I think I'll have to see the in action before I can really grasp it.

I do understand the 'cheaper' side of things though!

I'm with Alpharius a bit. I think it's overly complicated. But then I don't play Aleph so I don't try it out either.

I don't feel it's that complicated. It's different, yes, but not in anyway labyrinthine.

On an active turn, orders are used much the same as two or three normal models, except they only generate one between them. Just swap the "active" marker to whichever proxy for free as part of your order and go.
On a reactive turn, the inactive proxies can take AROs (if from a reduced list) and also grant an ARO to the active proxy (which can be used as normal or to jump to any other proxy).
If the active proxy karks it, the ghost can only jump out of it again if there's an AI beacon.

Mind you, I think the Link Team rules are fairly simple.

Marco - I still don't quite grasp it - is it like a combined order?

The other way around - it's multiple models that only have a single Order.

So if you have 3 proxies on the table, they all use a single order to do the same thing - kind of like how a servant operates?

No. There is one consciousness (and therefore one Regular Order provided) across all three bodies, but the consciousness is only ever in one body at a time.

Example - the Doctor proxy is currently active (has the consciousness inside it) but there's someone you want to snipe. So you spend an Order, jump the consciousness into the TO Camo sniper proxy and shoot someone. Later on, a model goes down so another Order is spent and the consciousness jumps back into the Doctor proxy and does a Move-Move toward the downed model.

A proxy with the consciousness in it gets AROs (pretty much) as normal plus being able to jump into another proxy, an 'empty' proxy body gets a very limited number of AROs such as Dodge.

Only one proxy is active at a time, so they're not like servants.

To summarise more fully:

In the active turn, they are treated as if they were normal models with two exceptions:
- They only generate one order between all of them.
- A proxy has to be active in order to act. The "Active proxy" marker is moved for free as part of the order. (This does mean that only one proxy at a time can be part of a combined order.)

In the reactive turn:
- An inactive proxy can take Alert, Change Facing or Dodge AROs and also generates an ARO for the active proxy. (The ghost is always aware of what all of its proxies can see.)
- The active proxy can take normal AROs, but can also spend an ARO to swap to another proxy.

Moving the ghost:
- The ghost can only move from an unconscious/dead proxy if there is an AI Beacon, or if the proxy is recovered from the Unconscious state. (However, Proxies Mk 1 & 2 are NWI)

I think I get it now!

The main benefit is the lower cost, and you can jump from proxy to proxy as the situation demands.

So, benefits and restrictions, and cool concept that will take some getting used to.

Appreciate your patience guys!
