Powerful Chaos Warrior
|
Ok so I started a WoC army a few months back bought a box of warriors and the battleforce, am working on painting them and am struggling with a Lord/Hero for my army. I guess after reading the army book I am really torn between which lore/god I prefer cause I enjoy them all but sort of want to make it more themed towards two of the chaos gods. Just thoughts on which two really compliment each other while keeping me competitive**note I play Necrons in 40K**. I have been leaning towards a Slaanish/Tzeentch army but really like some of the Nurgle buffs and Khorne gives a lot to the CC which I feel WoC are. Thoughts and Comments please.

Tzeentch warriors with a Blasted standard and shields are great for sitting out in front of a more fragile but deadly unit (i.e. Khorne warriors with AHW or even Mauraders with GW's) They are your perfect anvil unit for the enemy to shoot their cannons at and armor piercing weapons and watch as Tzeentch slaps those cannonballs out of the sky while laughing the whole time. Then, in cc they are still really hard to kill with their 3+ 5++ saves, it makes it really hard to kill. Slaanesh is mostly only good for fluff, though making your already frightening army immune to psychology does have its advantages. Nurgle is cool, but will really only help with shooting, as you've already got WS 4 guys, there aren't meany WS 2 or 5 things that you're going to be fighting.
Now for Lords, the first question is: Are you running a Sorcerer Lord or a Maelstrom of cc death meat grinder Lord? If sorcerer, look at the spells for each Lore (Slaanesh is rather underpowered compared to the other two) Tzeentch has some amazing and fun spells (as is befitting the God of Magic and Change) which are fairly reliable in their ability to cast them. Nurgle has some fun spells that can be rather handy, but nothing that is really a game changer, although I have seen a nurgle list that was anti-champion with a slew of Nurgle sorcerers with Magnificient Buboes that seemed really cool. Slaanesh is rather pointless in my opinion, it doesn't really do anything helpful for your troops, and the few direct damage spells aren't nearly as powerful as what can be found in the other two lores or in a fire wizard.
If you're running a warrior Lord, Nurgle is rather pointless unless you just like the fluff (which is just a good a reason as any other to play the game) As Nurgle won't really help a WS8 character very often (especially if you give him the Chaos Runesword and make him WS 9, then it's really superfluous). Slaanesh really shouldn't affect him much. MOK makes sets the blender to frappe setting, and Tzeentch makes him able to take a cannonball and keep on walking like nothing happened with his sweet ward save (especially if you give him a magical item that increases that ward save).
That's my limited overview, I haven't been playing WoC for very long (about a year now) but this is what I've gathered about the four different gods. It'll be interesting to see what the new upcoming update will bring though. Hope this helps!

one block of Khorne Warriors with Halberds and another of sword and Board Tzeentch is the basis of one of the most competitive builds out there with WoC... add lvl4 on disk (+ goodies), some hounds, maybe a cannon and your good to go... obviously, this isnt a definitive answer, but its a good basis to go from.

How is putting Sigvald joined with other marks of chaos...or is he pretty much a wash of a char.?? Has anyone used any of the named chars. that the book offers?

Throgg is a great special character, but the rest of them are pretty much unnecessary. I actually take a Lord on a disc myself, with talis. of preservation (4++), halberd and crown of command (stubborn). Talis. boosts with MoT for a 3++ and he'll kill almost anything in a straight up fight, and if he loses a round of combat, he's stubborn 9. Not so bad. I smashed through a few units of HE with him a couple days ago. My list was:
That lord
Sorc Lord ( lvl 3), Tzeentch, Spell familiar, 6++ talisman
Tzeentch Sword&Board warriors (20)
Nurgle Warriors w/ rage banner and AHW (20)
Chosen with Favor, Terror Banner and halberds (19)
2 Chariots
2 Hellcannons
It mulched a high elf army. Good times

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Thanks for the input I have been reading more and looking at the specials and really feel the Lords and Sorc Lords are the way to go...so I am building myself a Tzeentch Sorc. Lord and a Nurgle Lord just to have some play differences... plus I like the disc option.. another question tho is it just me or does anyone else find marauders kind of a waste for an army??

Marauders are arguably the best core choice available to any army in WHFB...
MoK and Flails, Horde of 40-50 and you are pretty much set.
Yes, the disc Lord is a great little piece, maneuverable and yet still hitty/killy.

I always make sure to include no less than 50 Maraudrers with flails and MoK in any army I am building for this army. Secodnly I will always make sure to include at least two blocks of 29 Warriors, one with swoar & board. The other with haleberds. then you need those hounds and maybe some trolls or Choosen, but that is really up toy ou. And somewhat depending on what you are going up against.
As for lords I always go for the meatgrider lord. I always stick him in a unit of 11 knigths and plant him on a juggernaugth, and give him the Obsidian sword and a combination of other stuff. But I will recomend you to try try different builds out thou

Very cool thanks for the help. I guess maybe it's just painting them that gets to be a grind.... I feel like a buddy of mine who plays IG in 40K and all he seems to do is paint paint, don't get me wrong I love that aspect of it it just seems to get tedious with the marauders that's all. Oh and explain the meatgrinder Lord...what is that?

Something I came up with is a unit of Chosen with the festering shroud and blasphemous amulet... A ton of autowounds per turn as well as chosen being utter psychos.
