Hello, some of my friends and I are going to be starting up a D&D game soon, and, while I have a decent amount of fantasy miniatures, I still need some more miniatures for the game. I am looking for a company with a range of 28-30mm fantasy miniatures that features a good selection of figures (both for characters and enemies) for a very cheap price, and are preferable based in the US.

I have had trouble finding a range of figures in the 28-30mm range, as most I have found while searching are actually 25-28mm.

Reaper has a great selection of items, though I dont know if they tip onto the 30mm side of the scale

What about Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures, or the Pathfinder line? Both are pre-painted, and you can find singles for the game for as little as $1 or so.. ebay or some online stores sell them.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Order of St Ursula (Sisters of Battle): W-2, L-1, T-1
Get of Freki (Space Wolves): W-3, L-1, T-1
Hive Fleet Portentosa (Nids/Stealers): W-6, L-4, T-0
Omega Marines (vanilla Space Marine): W-1, L-6, T-2
Waagh Magshak (Orks): W-4, L-0, T-1
A.V.P.D.W.: W-0, L-2, T-0

I have some Reaper miniatures and they are great, but I am looking for figures more in the $2-$3 range for enemies, whereas Reaper is usually $6. I may use them for the characters, but I am trying to spend very little on the other miniature I need.

I have looked through the D&D line, but the problem is that the prices on most of the useful figures is crazy, with only a few of the less useful ones being around $1. I do think I might get the Pathfinder hero pack now, as I have found out there will be 2 female gamers in the D&D group, so the females in the pack may have a use (also found the 2 other players are playing human wizard and half-elf rouge, so the male minis both have a use).

You're not going to find much in the 28-30mm range for 2-3 bucks a piece. Metal just costs too much.

Reaper's new Bones line of unpained plastic figs are quite nice less than $2.50 each.

Also, it's a touch over your price range, but if you dig through Reapers P65 line you'll find a fair number of 4 buck figs.

For figs less than 3 bucks, I'd recommend going with classic 25-28mm and looking at the following figure lines, that with a bit of basing, will look fine along side of 28-30mm stuff. In a warband or rpg setting where you're not doing ranks of identical figs, size difference doesn't matter much.

Mega Miniatures

Denizen (closer to 25, but quite nice miniatures)

Perhaps the easiest though, is to go on Ebay, Bartertown, Dakka Marketplace, TMP, and your local FLGS and look for used and sale figs.

Well if you dont mind fiddling with plastics (and not to mention low details) then WGF has a few fantasy and historical sets with less than a buck a mini. Probably still on the smaller end of 28mm though

Orcs and Skeles are in their fantasy section

Vikings, Saxons, Ancient Celts, and Ancient Germans could all be combined to make various low tech barbarians (and use Orc weapons for more fantasy)

Numidians and Persians could make some desert people

And theres the other plastic makers too like mantic

If you wanted larger quantities of bodies, can always try for some Mantic stuff-undead and orcs for baddies, and they aren't too expensive. They range in at about $1.50 a skellie.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I really like a lot of the miniatures here, and their prices and selection are great. I would just have to make sure they are not too small compared to the figures I already have. Does anyone know how they compare in size to the D&D Chainmail figures and Mage Knight figures (these groups make up most of my fantasy figures currently)?

It depends on what you are buying. A lot of those minis were done by different companies, and the rights were then bought by Johnny (mega minis owner). Because of that the scales vary a bit.

I have a few fantasy minis. They are a tad smaller than GW minis. More along the lines of old Ral Partha.

Let me root around later tonight. I may be able to grab a pic or two for comparison.

Also keep in mind. His minis are between 1.50 and 2.50 for A LOT of them. At those kinds of prices you could nerf your existing minis and replace them all.

Also, remember that alot of the Megaminis and other cheap figures have integral bases molded to the model's feet that add a bit of height. Once you glue them to the top of a slotta they height difference is less noticable.

General S.,
As for size comparisons. Mage knight figures are not very consistent, and unfortunately they do tend toward the tall end of things. Many are even taller than GW.

The reaper Bones and P65 figs should scale pretty well with mage knight though.
