Im finishing off an Eldar Revenant - Ulthwe scheme, so hes basically, black and cream!

However, Im at a loss how to highlight/shade him.

Any ideas are welcome, I thought a light white on the cream and a light shadow grey on the black?

Shading though, no idea and am not sure if the highlights will work.

Any ideas are much appreciated, bearing in mind he has a very large surface area in terms of plates/"knee pads" shoulder pads etc.

Cream can be highlighted with white or white mixed with the cream. For the black I'd go for a clean black highlight going black, necron (lol phone's auto correct made it bedroom) abyss, enchanted blue to spacewolf grey. That will get you an almost glowing black color

I'd like to cut down on painting time since its a huge project (I know I shouldnt!).
Do you think white without a cream mix in would work well?

I like to highlight black with turquoise... I also mix it in with the black so the armor is not pure black, but "so blue it's black." It makes for a nice effect:

But thanks for the idea.

I use P3 coal black mixed with Exile Blue. I then add some Frostbite to the OG mix for the very edge Highlite.

Not sure of the GW equivalents.

Coal Black = ?
Exile Blue = Regal blue
Frostbite= SpaceWolf Grey

Not sure if they make these anymore

White not mixed with cream would work, as long as it's thinned and blended well.

I think the first thing is I would do a test piece to get the colours right before I started on the big model.

For highlighting black there are various approaches which depend on aesthetic preference.

To ring a change on the ScootyPuffJunior suggestion, try painting over all with Payne's Grey, which is actually a very dark blue-grey. Pick out highlights with a slightly lightened Payne's Grey, then wash with pure black. Finally, do some very light, small highlights with a paler version of your lightened Payne's Grey. At this stage, you can go however far you like, even doing dots or tiny streaks in almost white. Obviously you need to use judgement; there isn't an easy 1,2,3 step guide for fine detailing. If the colours are starting to look a bit separated out, a final thin wash with Payne's Grey should tie things together.

The cream is relatively easy to highlight/shade/wash as you just use lighter or darker variations on the base colour.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Black;

Chaos Black and Regal Blue mixed half-and-half as base coat.
Add a bit of Fortress Grey to the mix and do a broad highlight.
Pure Fortress Grey as a fine highlight.
Two layers of Badab Black wash, letting first layer dry thoroughly before applying the second.

The above is a shortened version of how Anja Wettergren does a "warm" black.

Also try painting the base coat as a very very dark grey.
That way you can actually shade it as well as highlight it.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
