I am working on a redesign for the skin right now. It hasn't been implemented for everyone, so I've included a picture of what it will be close to when it is done. I'm looking for thoughts on how it is or if anything should change.

Hello, I just setup a new skin design for Sturmkrieg Warhamer player content wiki. How does it look? Before, it had the basic Wikipedia/Vector appearance.

The two main colors that I try to maintain are red and gray.

I originally had the darker gray area as red, but I felt that red as a warm color didn't go well with gray as a darker color. If you can imagine what different shades of red would look like, go ahead and let me know if you have any ideas.

I also lightened up the two shades of gray somewhat, which made it easier to work with other colors for text, such as the red links.

Questions:
1) Generally, how does the new skin look?
2) Do the red links look red enough?

Looks OK bar one thing. Orange links MUST go away. They literally hurt my eyes when looking at them. [Style "new" I think]

Yeah, I'll make sure that gets done. That was one of the things that we haven't customized yet.

I'm thinking about changing the color of the links to non existent pages to white. The problem is that it's hard to come up with a good color that works with the dark layout and is easy to read.

White looks good enough IMHO. But you could try something more similar to normal links if you are not pleased with current look.

If I might add something, just to nitpick.
A tiny detail: Icon next to login/register has a white border. Was this intentional...? Putting some alpha or just background colour would make it look better.
On a similar note: The main logo could use some polishing. It's a bit 'jagged' on the side. As a link to the main page it is big enough that only two colours don't look so good. Add some gradient or shadow or whatever.

Layouts is good but the grey/gray background looks rather dull.

It may just be me but I rather it be a more brighter grey .

Otherwise I'm happy with it

Yeah, I eventually realized that. I lightened it up slightly so it wouldn't look like a copy/pasted the colors. I didn't think it would be too obvious since we use the Vector skin while yours uses monobook, and our links are red. I originally wanted the darker gray area to be red, but it didn't look that great. I used a different shade of red a second time when I realized the similarities before trying to lighten it up. I can try other shades of red, since that's what I originally wanted. Do you think it's a problem, or is it alright? I was going for a feldgrau/mechanicum color.

I've seen other people make announcements about personal sites. I think it's ok as long as people aren't spamming the out of the board.

Sorry about that if you were upset by it. I'll tinker with this configuration, since I originally wanted it but the first brighter shades of red didn't work well with the theme.

The red is ok. I like the Dark grey better myself.

I liked it too, but it did look too much like I was copying Lexicanum. I was going for an old version of what our skin looked like when we used Monobook. We had the default Vector layout for about a year since it was practically impossible to find documentation or help on customizing vector. Our original Monobook skin was a lot lighter gray with white sidebars, so it looked less like Lexicanum.

I like having the red because it's a Mechanicum color, and I was going to have the Sturmkrieg Sektor split between the Mechanicum and Imperium.

To me it does not matter if it looks like it was copied as long as it is something that looks good and you like it.

That's a really good point for a lot of stuff. Though, part of what I want is to not look like I just copied it.

I actually wanted to have a red color for that part, but switched to darker gray once the shade of red I first used didn't go well with the gray content area.

We're almost completely done now, unless anyone has any suggestions for changes.

We've added a dark red background, slightly darkened the content area to go with the darker background, and added a gray header up by the red user links with the site name to the left.

I have it almost finished now, if anyone has any comments on it or the changes.

I just updated the skin. I added the new information to the OP to make it easier to see.
