A friend of mine has decided that he doesn't like his Necron army anymore and has decided to give me them in exchange for some tuition on his Scriptwriting (I'm a scriptwriter by trade).

All of this is BNIB.

2 Catacomb Command Barge/Annihilation Barge.

1 Box of Warriors.

1 Box of Immortals.

1 Box of Triarch Praetorians/Lychguard.

He also gave me a squad of converted Royal Court consisting of 4 Harbingers of Destruction and a Necron Lord.

In which direction do I go next? I have a very old Necron army consisting of 2nd ed models from 1997 and some models from 3rd ed, but these are badly painted and none of them are salvageable.

You need more Warriors and another box of Immortals to round that squad out. Right now you've got plenty of toys but very few boots on the ground.

Battle force sounds like a good idea then.

Tons more Warriors, some Immortals, Scarabs and an Ark.

More barges are always good. I usally run 2-3 Abarges+1-2 CCB barges. You get the Free Overlord with each kit, Which can stand in as regular Lords as well.

Battleforce is a pretty good buy.

The Lychguard box is probably built best, with Hyperphase swords and Dispersion shields. There will be a ton of leftover bits, which you can use to convert some warrior models, into Crypteks. Use the Single eyes from the Deathmark heads, out of the immortal box, and they will look just like Crypteks.

You Can't go wrong with Wraiths either. They are one of the best units in our codex, and provide a multitude of uses.

Hey I met your friend last week!

Battle force and 2 boxes of wraiths, then probably another barge. You'll love those wraiths especially when you need that close combat anti-assault stuff, I've had them beat down many a thing and 3+/3++ with some whip coils means honey badger don't care.

Yep, you can never go wrong with getting some wraiths, and a battleforce to help fill out your core

Honestly try to trade the lych/praetorian box for wraiths, and the proceed to buy three more boxes of them to robustly fill out two squads. Step three is profit in there somewhere.

Wraith are definitely on my shopping list of goodies.

I'll get the Battleforce next week.

I've made a list of stuff that I like in the codex:

Wraiths
Tomb Blades
Scarabs
Doomsday Arks
Annihilation Barges

Lance Teks - got one unit converted from Triachs and Deathmark Heads, going to do the same with the other box.

Triach Stalkers - I'm still to find a use for it.

Units I'm not fussed about:

Monolith - has been nerfed, but it needed to be.

Destroyers - good shooting, but have lost manouverability.

Ghost Arks - they just don't do enough for their points.

Last question in this reply:

Do Necrons need to go Mech to win? It seems that every other army does, but the Necron Dex seems to be a different animal.

Crons don't need mech (you'll be moving the same speed either way). So pretty much 75% of the vehicles we take are the barges and that is pretty much just for that lovely tesla destructor or sweep attack.

Death marks are the coolest models in the range. Neat rules too

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

If you're not going to bring troop transports, I highly recommend a couple of Harbingers of Despair with Veils of Darkness.

They win me many a game with their flying-about voodoo.

Nobody said Spyders? They're handy.

Necrons are an army that can field a mixed list and do well. If you do get Spyders, get another bunch of Scarabs too. Nothing more frustrating than having your Spyders stop pooping out more Scarabs b/c you ran out of bases.

Do squads of Harbingers of Destruction work?

They seem really Vulnerable.

You got it, too vulnerable. They just die by their lonesome.

You don't need all that much in the way of ablative models though, correct me if I'm wrong but both the Immortal and Warrior boxes are 12 models each. That might be enough for troops. Our strength isn't really in our troop slots. ie,

Two units of six Warriors each + Two units of six Immortals each.

Depending on your point level etc, of course.

Warrior boxes are 12 strong, Immortals are 5 strong.

This is what I'll have by Friday:

Necron Overlord.
Necron Overlord on Catacomb Command Barge.

4 Crypteks - converted from Triarchs, already built.
Necron Lord from one of one of the Barge box sets.

Triarch Praetorian Box - Going to be used as the base for Crypteks.

10 Immortals - going to be equipped with Gauss Blasters and be accompanied by the Phaeron.

32 Warriors - 3 squads of 10 or 2 squads of 15.

10 Scarab Bases.

2 Annihilation Barges.
Doomsday Ark.

I think that I don't have a lot of firepower, especially for a Necron Army.

Go with Warriors with Gauss Rifles to deal with vehicles. Immortals with Tesla Carbines to deal with infantry.

Troops are always a good bet.

224th Astra Legion (main army)
628th Praetorian Guard Cohort (wife's army)
827th Auxilia Cohort (ad mech fun)
825th Foderati Cohort (in the beginning army)
1212th Foederati Cohort - Jokaero (cause I like apes with guns)

Warriors for anti tank? Sorry, but I just don't see it.

By the time the warriors will be in range, the contents of any transport *cough Terminators or Marines cough*, will be in my face. Never a good place to see Marines or Terminators.

I've been reading up a little more about Necrons and I've read something about Tremorcrons?

Something like that can't seriously work can it?

It seems gimmicky, but also looks like a tactic that virtually any list can be tailored to.
